I Have to tell this to you guys. I work at a store where they send us a new CD to play each month. This month's CD had Eddie Vedder covering the Beatles, from the I Am Sam soundtrack. I asked one of the guys if he knew who this was singing. He thought for a minute and then said no. I told him it was Eddie Vedder and he just stared at me. Then I said, "you know... from Pearl Jam?" I still got the same blank stare! This got me going! So I went around and asked about 15 other people the question, "What band does Eddie Vedder sing in?" Only one fuckin' person got it right! Everyone that I asked was between 17 and 22 years old. I couldn't believe that only one person knew who he was. It really made me feel old. Either that or I just work with a bunch of morons.

there's actually a good reason for that. pearl jam has always gone out of their way to stay out of the spotlight. there's a reason that pearl jam isn't put up their with nirvana when it comes to talking about the grunge revolution, radio stations and mtv hate pearl jam. they never make videos, they never do interviews, and they hate everything the mainstream media stands for.

i have never stopped loving pearl jam, and as inovative i think nirvana was i still think pearl jam were the better musicians. pearl jam had their song Betterman ready for their second record, yet eddie refused to put it on because he thought it would sell too much because it was too catchy.

they hate all the bullshit that comes with the music media, and i applaud them for it. they had the balls to fight ticketmaster, and continue to make music without listening to the advice of radio critics. they only do what they want, most bands would kill to be as free and as strong willed as pearl jam

and before this goes on too long, eddie vedder has the best voice, he writes the best lyrics, and if you haven't gotten binaural their latest album do it, it kicks ass.

the invasion has begun

I guarantee that the kids know the songs, but dont know any of the members of the band...I mean K-Rock plays it at least twice every three hours or so... Pearl Jam has continued to put out albums only with less and less fanfare everytime. I think that the first two were the best, and vitalogy killed a lot of the fan base. They did a lot of gungy things with Vitalogy. The conclusion being that the more people got turned off by Pearl Jam the less they knew who they were...

fatty, kurt cobain mostly felt the same way. The only reason mtv et al. love him is because he's dead and can't do anything about it.

the kids these days make me sick, i can't believe hardly anyone knew who eddie veder is! the man is amazing! he's one of the greatset artist of our time and pearl jam is without a doubt one of the most influental artists to come along in the past decade, god stupid people suck ass!
they probibly don't even know who jane's addiction is, and god forbid if you ask them to tell you who the singer from the smashing pumpkins is. now i'm all pissed, im gonna go rummage through my grunge collection and play some old STP cd's, back when they were really good.
and while we are on the topic of music kids like and don't like, why the fuck were kids so misseralbe 10 years ago and now they are all happy and like at that crappy, happy music?

yeah i totally agree justjon, kurt just had a much rougher time handling it than eddie. eddie knew to stay away right away pretty much, but by the time kurt looked up he was already in too deep. it's really tragic, none of these guys wanted fame. only to make great music which they did/do.

unlike these trl wannabe jerkoffs with no talent who will smear their talentless faces on any magazine that will let them.

the invasion has begun

Yeah well, Paul Westerberg does "Nowhere Man" on that same soundtrack (pretty well I may add). And you think it was hard finding people to know who Eddie Vedder is.

The guy is a hack, but I still know what band he's from.

If you really knew, you'd've said it. The Replacements. I dug his stuff on the Singles soundtrack and 14 Songs

I'm in full agreement about Pearl Jam kicking ass, and it's scary to think that vedder is so unknown now.

And Paul Westerberg rocks too.

Listen to Eddie Trunk go on about the way MTV used to be and they way radio used to be. Remember Head Bangers Ball? Remember when MTV played rock and metal videos all the time? Now all they play is this HIP-HOP wannabee shet!! I betcha those people who didn't know who Eddie was probably know who Chuck D is and thats because every young white kid these days is listening to DMX, Jay-Z and trying to impress their black friends with their old school knowledge. Pathetic!!
