I just saw a trailer for it on TV and was wondering if anyone had heard anything about it? (It looks cool, but trailers always make movies look cool...)

It looks bad. It was actually set to be directed by George Romero I believe but he was fired and replaced by the guy who did Mortal Kombat. It's unfortunate this guy really should have more better films to his name.

I'll probably still see it if for no other reason then for Milla Jovovich.

Ikea, are you serious that they hired, then fired George Romero as diretor??? That's a shame, as I think he'd have done an amazing job.

I just double checked my research and Romero was the original RE director. However he was fired awhile ago, around 2000 I think and with him the ultra-gore.

Also regarding Romero, I read a couple of months ago plans to remake Dawn of the Dead with only CGI gore and blood.

I hope this movie is better than Tomb Raider and Super Mario Brothers.

i don't know Lantern, I heard at the end it turns out the zombies are just misunderstood and they just want to celebrate the earth goop that gave birth to us all.

I've heard (from screen tests) that it's a bad movie. The film doesn't follow the storyline of the video game much at all (which isn't always a bad thing, but they seem to have gone in another weird direction). As for how it looks....well, it has some gore, and it will probably look like an MTV music video, but I've heard it has Milla Jovovich nekkid (or damn near it), so maybe that's enough for some people.

It's kind of sad, though, because the original screenplay (by Romero, I believe) was supposed to be KILLER. Romero was basically going to make this film double as a video game movie AND a pseudo-sequel to his Dead series. It could have been great, but you know that worked out.

I also heard that Romero is having trouble getting financing for the fourth Dead film even though the price tag is like less than $5 million and that's just ridiculous to me. Even though, yes, the third Dead film was pretty bad this man who essentially revitalized the American horror genre deserves the opportunity to finish off/continue his groundbreaking series.

I just re-watched the RE trailer and first off here's why it's going to suck.

a) It's going to be generic action movie, not a zombie movie. I'm not saying there can't be an action zombie movie but this is just going to be a typicla action movie.
b) Matrix Kick- If your movie has a Matrix kick in it, it's going to suck. That's simple enough. Matrix kick never good- not even in Matrix.

I have no problem with the creation of a video game movie with no ties to the video game as long as it's done well.

This movie was originally scheduled to be filmed in 1998 & released in early 99 (to go with the original game storyline). It originally had a completely different cast (all B actors). I remember looking on imdb back the in early 99 to find the schedules for re-shoots & releases dates. The relese date kept getting pushed back every month to supposedly fix special effects. In early 2000 I remember there being an announcement that the stuff that was shot all the CGI had to be scrapped cause the effects looked like shit & they were going to completely re-do everything(exit George Romero). It originally was going to be a B-grade horror movie, but their was a huge interest in the sequals that made the movie company take control over everything. Well now the movie looks like shit thanks to execs who can't let a brilliant director do what he does best & making him leave for no goddamn reason. They also decided to get all these young hollywood fucks, who ruin every movie (be it horror or comedy, or just about anything.) Thank god that there's non of those American Pie assclowns in this hunk of shit. I can't stand all those psuedo-horror movies from the past couple of years & now this movie is one of those thanks to hollywood jackasses who want to cash in on a dead trend. You can probably find the George Romero script on websites. I've read it & enjoyed it & think that everyone will too.

PETE - Yep, thats what happened. Only I haven't been following it in the IMDB but rather in the various computer game magazines.

The loss of Romero will certainly have a negative impact, but who knows, the extra development time might result in a better finished product.

HordeKing,
Honestly I do hope that the effects are good, but personally have a backlash against it from the choices that the studio made. I did follow it in game magazines & Fangoria when I knew that there was info there or on any websites with truthful info. IMDB is very good for finding all the technical stuff out, but trade sites are the best flat out for movie updates & all. Anyone see Romero's 'Bruiser' yet? I haven't watched it, but have seen commercials for it on PPV trailer channel (pretty much every cable company has one of these useless channels). It looked alright, especially with the Misfits doing a few songs for it (that they released on their final RoadRunner Records release 'Cuts From The Crypt' w/ their video for "Scream" directed by George Romero.) Hopefully his next movie will be backed by a studio or some investors. I do believe Jerry Only of the Misfits is contributing money to help him release it. Maybe the Misfits can help, as they did help re-release 'Mad Monster Party' by Rankin/Bass in 1998. They helped spread the word that it still existed on film (the Rankin/Bass master was destroyed by water damage), but a private collector's print helped distributors re-release it on video.

Romero's next film, I believe, is The Girl who Loved Tom Gordon ,based on a King novel.

And if you ask me I'd prefer a comepetent zombie movie with all makeup (Tom Savini of course) and no CGI than what RE appears to Be.
