I was going through some of my stuff and came across this autographed picture of Willie Montanez. He played first for the Mets in the mid-70's. I wrote a letter to him asking for an autographed photo and he kindly obliged.

Nowadays, I'd probably be charged $20 for it.

Back in his day Willie Montanez was known as baseball's biggest "hot dog". he would take a 1/2 hour to round the bases on a homerun. Then Ricky Henderson came along and redefined the term. I went to my first Mets game in 1977. John Stearns, Doug Flynn, Maz, Craig Swan, Steve Henderson, Neil Allen just some of the greats back then. Oh and the manager Joe Torre.

Cake or Death? Uh, I'll have the cake please.

Remember Felix Millan? Ed Kranepool? Jon Matlack? Jerry Koosman? Wayne Garrett? Jerry Grote?

Unreal that it was so long ago...seems like yesterday.

I remember going to the 1964 World's Fair and seeing Shea..brand new!
As for old Mets, I know them all, even though I love the Yankees. My Dad had corporate boxes in both stadiums, I was blessed.

I had gotten George Theodore's autograph before a game one time. Funny thing was, it looked like he was walking along the stands looking for people that he could give his autograph to.

That's true. I remember that whenever he would field a throw to first base, he would do an exaggerated flip of the glove once he caught the ball.

How about Don Bosch in centerfield or Rod Gaspar. They had the worst talent back then. Don Cardwell and Cal Koonce on the pitching staff. I still have those old yearbooks some place.

I had Don Cardwell's autograph on a baseball. He lived(temporarily)near a family friend.I received it as a Christmas gift. After a few years the ink from the 19 cent pen he used to sign it with faded. It became just one of the rest of my"pepper" balls.

I remember my dad dragging me to the local book store to stand in line and get an autographed copy of Tug McGraw's autobiography entitled "Screwball!" I'm gonna have to dig through mom's photo albums to find the picture...it features a 7 year old Gvac (in a wool Mets uniform) standing next to the Tugger.

Now you could ask him if he's ever seen his daughter-in-law, country diva Faith Hill, naked.
