I'll say this - he was a great wrestler, WHEN he wanted to be.
But he was a fucking asshole too, and there was no happier man than I when his career was cut short.
Karma's a bitch, Shawn.

WOW seven. i knew some people hated him but damn. personally, he's my favorite wrestler of all time. he wasn't the biggest or the strongest, but his style was the best. just balls out kick ass keep coming at you until he tired you out and then sweet chin it up. the ladder match is the best match of all time, and even though he lost it he took mainsteam wrestling to the next level. hall never recoverd, Hbk only got better.
thanks to WWFallon
and Gvacnomore for the
money sig!

He'll be back to be with or against the NWO.
Personally I like to see HBK and HHH reunite as the original DX minus "I'd rather be in Chyna".
I wonder who could replace Chyna, just in case?

Cov that's a rough picture of him, I don't know if it's lighting or not but I remember him looking a whole lot better then that.
Like many (I think) I have mixed feelings about the HBK. I have read many tails of his being a prick in the locker room, screwing up jobs, whining that his opponent didn't make him look good, etcetc. How much of it is true? Who the hell knows. And, the whole 'lost my smile' bit still makes me cringe...
But the other side is that he was damm entertaining, both at the mike and in the ring. If you watched him early on with the Midnight Rockers (or before) you had to be impressed with his progression (be honest- out of him and Jenetty, who did you think would progress further??) Part of his appeal to me was my impression that he was a regular size guy who beefed-up enough to compete with the Sid's and Vader's without changing his style from air/technical to plodding (ala the Steiners).
Bottom line - I'm no HBK mark but I think wrestling was better with him then without.
Fezaesthesia - Prognosis poor...

All those stories that everyone's heard about him being a dick to fans & stuff is all horseshit. I met him last year (January 2001) & he was an incredibly nice guy. I was able to talk to him for five minutes while he was signing my stuff & a little while afterwards. He was incredibly cool to everyone at the signing & acted just down to earth, just like every other wrestler I've ever met. Easily HBK, RVD w/ Bill Alphonso(Fonzie was hysterical), Sandman & Jason Knight were the coolest. I've heard from many people that Rikishi is a complete asshole to the fans & promoters at signings. He orders the promoters around like he's their boss & shit like that.
BTW I met Jason Knight at Club Bene when he was Jersey All Pro champ, back in OCT. 2000, when there was still barbedwire & suicidal matches in NJ.

Did anyone else hear Vince McMahon say without hesitation on Opie and Anthony that HBK would be back?
I am excited... I wonder if he'll be at Mania... that would RULE!

Okay, so you think numerous accounts from dozens of people that he was an asshole are horseshit just because you spent 5 minutes with the guy and he wasn't a dick? I'm sorry, that's silly to me.
I'm a bit irrational in my hatred of Shawn, but I can't see how anyone can deny that he WASN'T a problem backstage. The man refused to job SO badly that he faked an injury (the infamous "Lost my smile" speech, which was made all the better because the fans started chanting "bullshit" at him) to get out of losing the title.
Was he a good wrestler? Damn straight. But he was an ass, and I've not missed him since he was gone.
