I work in the wine & liquor trade, and I do drink a lot of wine.(not really into the liquor) So I was wondering if there were any other wine lover's out there and what your favorites are? Tonight's selection is a 2000 vintage chardonnay from Brancott Vineyards in New Zealand. I'm no Robert Parker but I'd give it a 90. Thanks for putting up with my self indulgent thread.

I enjoy red wine more than white... I have it when I eat my pasta... it compliments the sauce very well and makes me feel very good afterwards.

I hate the taste of beer but i like wine. Yet I admit I know nothing about wine.

mmm I love wine. For red, I like a nice Merlot or Chianti..I don't know many names but I know what they look like in the liquor store. If I'm going white I would choose Santa Margharita 2000 Pinot Grigio or Luna de luna Pinot...Wine is wonderful, and its such a different buzz then what you get from beer.

Good Subject,

Love Merlot...
LunaDiLuna and Woodbridge
Also Pinot Grigio for white...

Question: Can sulphates cause headache? You do not find too many wines without them...

The key to knowing wine, is knowing what you like. I work in the business and can't stand the snobbery some people have towards it. When you break it down it's just squashed grapes. Right now the best quality at the best price, I feel, is Spain, Chile, and Argentina. With Portugal fast on the rise. For those of you who posted, experiment a little. Try a Malbec from Argentina, or a Tempranillo from Spain.(both Reds, available for $10 or less and delicious) In whites, Sauvignon Blancs from New Zealand and Pinot Blancs, Pinot Gris', and Rieslings from Alsace are definitely worth exploring. You don't need a fat wallet or flight attitude to appreciate the good stuff.

there are lots of good Shiraz's out there. In the best quality for your $ category are McGuigan's & Buckley's 2000 vintage. A little pricier is the Peter Lehman 1999 Barossa Shiraz, it's a bout $20 and Penfold's '99 Shiraz for about $25.
