View Full Version : I Hate Trying to Find a Job

It's true. I'm currently perusing Monster and HotJobs, the NY Times, everything, to find a (second) job, and it just sucks. Somehow, actually looking at the listing makes me feel even worse than when I'm being lazy and not attempting to find anything. And some of these companies are ridiculous with their requirements - they're offering some crapola job and want years of experience, degrees, telepathic abilities - to the point where people who possess everything they're looking for would never take the job they're offering in the first place.

Of course, I've never actually obtained employment, or an interview for that matter, through a classified ad or job website, so I don't know why I bother.

Sorry for the rant, but hopefully some of you know what I mean.

42nd,

Tight market out there, companies feel they can take advantage of it and in essence take advantage of people...
But, are they gonna have an employee whose eager and productive(maybe not?) How productive may you be if you know you just took it in the pooper on salary because you needed the job...
Tough call but sometimes it's better to get someone with less experience who is hungry to learn and produce...
Experience is Great but if the work ethic and attitude suck, then it's a minus

Ugh..I know EXACTLY what you mean...I'm currently going through the same thing. And it's even harder because I don't have a college degree. My friend Matt, who is an IT job recruiter, actually told me to lie on my resume and say I have one. Why can't I just be indepenently wealthy? :p

I'm too busy getting hustled for my money by the karaoke guys at Iggy's. I think they just called my name for that request I put in three weeks ago.

What type of work are you looking for? I used to work as a recruiter in HR. Your best bet is to go to an employment agency and give them your resume. They in turn will fax your resume over to a bunch of companies who they work with to fill open positions. Or consider being a secretary like me. I'm 22, have a GED and no college, 4 years experience, and make $45K. If you have a degree, try going for career counselling at your college. But the job market is really tough right now, so you might have to take something you don't like. Have you thought about temping?

I know exactly how you feel 42nd, I've been looking for a full time (career oriented)job as well, I have a college degree too. It completely sucks..I finally finish college and go into the real world at the worst possible time in US employment. By the way, what kind of job or area are you looking in?

Ps...Ag..I'll have a turkey. lettuce, tomato, light mayo on a roll. thanks...hehe :)

I'm looking for pretty much any thing that pays at least 30K and is in Manhattan, and that doesn't require me to be a telemarketer. I've talked to a few employment agencies but so far the temping thing hasn't worked out. I just need this music career to take off, dammit!
