View Full Version : Best Tag Team of All Time

Clearly most of us will have varying opinions, but I would say without a shadow of a doubt that the best damn tag team ever to grace the ring is none other than Ax and Smash... Demolition.

Early Road Warriors (AWA) and early British Bulldogs. Honorable mention to a sometime pair, Baron Sicluna and the 'unpredictable' Johnny Rodz (they predictably lost but were fun to watch!)

Steiner Brothers. They dominated America AND Japan, and had some of the best tag matches I've ever seen. I'd rate their Japanese work slightly better than their American work, but that's just personal preference.
Honorable mention, though, goes out to Arn Anderson & Tully Blanchard, as well as The Rock N' Roll Express & Midnight Express (who had ALWAYS had great matches with each other).

I will have to agree, for pure markout value. I also used to love the Samoan Swat Team/Headshrinkers. Any team that featured a fat guy splashing people off the top rope was cool in my book.

oh you didn't know?
when it comes down to it i just can't see the outlaws losing a big match. you want to talk about the perfect combination of style, strength, and team work. i think the steiners and the outsiders were absolutely unstoppable, but they were better singles than a tag. demolition vs. the outlaws would be the money match though

Hey Jay how can you list the Sky skrappers and say
the Viscous and Callous team while the The
Viscous/Spivey SkySkrappers where a hundred
times better.... As for people who say the Mega
Powers and Stud and Bunde... I don't consider you
a tag team unless you try getting the tag belts
which those teams never did. I can't believe the
lack of respect the Dudleys and Edge and Christian
are getting. Must you be retired for 5 years before
you get resp

CYYYFYYY...
I was going to put that version of the skytscrapers as #6. I feel the callous/viscious was the better team because they both went on to greater success then Spivey. (Shortly after the spivey/viscious combo broke up, I lost track of spivey.)
Got paste???
http://animatedgif.net/beavisbutthead/ralph_eats_glue_e0.gif
I feel the callous/viscious was the better team
Vicious and Callous never teamed under the Skyscrapers name. The original members were Vicious and Spivey. Sid got injured, and he was replaced by Callous. When that team broke up, Spivey went to the WWF under the Waylon Mercy gimmick, which was actually pretty entertaining.

I beg to differ Tazz. I remember them teaming as "The Skyscrapers" and taking the WCW tag-titles from the LOD. Spivey replaced Callous after he went to the WWF to become the Undertaker.

CY- your comment about new vs. older teams is interesting. I don't know how old you are but based on your high regard for the newer teams my guess would be you are pretty young (no crime...I wish I was).
It seems like people think of the same general categories of teams but have different reference points, based mostly on age. When I think of a team of big, rough brawlers who push the limits I think of the Road Warriors or the Andersons. When I think of faces, fast high flyers with good mike skills I think of the Rock and Roll Express, the Midnight Express and the Fabulous Ones (alright maybe not-so-good mike skills).
Bottom line- the combinations are formulaic. I saw Demolition and I saw the Road Warriors. IMO Demolition was a cover, a good one but not as good as the original. Ditto for Edge and Christen, APA, Micheals and Vicious etc.
Fezaesthesia - Prognosis poor...
It was Spivey and Vicious at the beginning. Sid suffered a collapsed lung and had to take a long break. He was replaced by Callous for a short period before the team broke up when Spivey left WCW. In addition, the Skyscrapers were NEVER the tag champs.

It's so hard to pick just one. My first favorites were the British Bulldogs, and Dynamite Kid was my fave on the team. He was the flyer and technical guy to Davey Boy's power.
The Hart Foundation...I liked them even when they were the bad guys. Again, Bret ruled with his technical skills. Really no one today puts together a couple of moves in combinations like he did...the atomic drop-reverse atomic drop comes to mind. And the Anvil was the tough guy with the great laugh.
The Killer Bees...even on the gimmick alone, these guys were awesome!!! I remember seeing a match against the Conquistadores. The Conquistadores were cheating (as usual), switching places without the ref noticing. B. Brian Blair got thrown out of the ring, Jumping Jim Brunzell went to help..they put on the Bee masks and began cleaning house!!! That was the best!!
