Tonight, Bill Nye, the world renowned Science Guy, will debate Ken Ham, founder of the Kentucky Creationist Museum. The debate is called "Is Creation A Viable Model of Origins?", or as I like to put it: teaching creationism to kids as science is bad m'kay.

Mr Ham:
"I hope to show Mr. Nye and our debate audience that observational science confirms the scientific accuracy of the Genesis account of origins, not evolution," Ham said. "A debate with Mr. Nye, nationally known for his children's TV program and for promoting evolution, will be one of our major 2014 events that will highlight how children and teens are being influenced by evolutionary thinking,"

Mr. Nye:
I say to the grown-ups, if you want to deny evolution and live in your world, in your world that's completely inconsistent with everything we observe in the universe, that's fine, but don't make your kids do it because we need them.

SO, pull up a chair and gather 'round

I think Nye is making a huge mistake here, because this gives the impression that there actually is something to be debated here.

Agreed.

I just don't understand how the two can coexist. I mean, if you look at Genesis and the way the world was created goes with evolution. People get hung up on the 6 days thing but the Bible was originaly a verbal story so to make things apply to people the 6 days was probably the easiest way to tell the story. And sure they didn't have the information we do now regarding species and genes and all of that, but now that we do I don't see how it disproves God or anything like that.

The issue is that back then people were just looking for a reason why their shitty lives were so shitty and any reason to believe their lot in life isnt their fault they clung too

cougarjake13

The reason to disprove a God is other then the science is that it's too easy to say that bad things happen bc of free will but god control's everything

cougarjake13

Its possible both can exist bc as humans we cant know or prove everything and maybe we misinterpreted how a god or aliens or what ever created us And both r true

See, I don't believe God controls everything. I know some people do, but I don't.

Exactly. And people are so quick to dismiss one or the other because of faith. And fait is great to have, but you have to be willing to hear out other people's thoughts and beliefs. To a degree. 9/11 truthers should just get punched in the dick.

The thing that holds up, and confuses most fundamentalist in this kind of conversation is the word "yom" used in the Hebrew texts, it is believed by many scholars to mean "a single day, a 24 hour period". Yet there are many others who translate it as "an age, an extended period of time. The more hard line believe the first, believing that the King James version is the perfect word of God for an English speaking nation, therefore, if it says 6 days, it means 6 days. Outside of the literal interpretation camp, scholars believe it could easily be translated to mean millions of years, an age.

Nye should have said bullshit while pointing at ham, dropped the mic and walked off victorious. Anyone who believes otherwise, or this ASS deserves to even be heard is plain lost and needs to cling to the bullshit he and so many others peddle for their own benefit of course. Crutch baby! Yah!

The evolutionists, scientists, and the such like need people like the creationists around to keep them working for answers. I hear too many "we know that..." even though they don't really know some things for certain, and are stating them as fact. Without constant questioning, I think some would get lazy and rest on their laurels. No, they don't know exactly where we came from, but if people keep questioning them and making them prove things, then answers will happen. If you really look at evolution, there are many holes that still need to be filled before it can be truly lauded as "fact." Get busy, guys! I'd love to see many more of these kind of debates in the future--they keep everyone on their toes.
