Paper towels are great for storage of most fruits/vegetables, especially if they're cut up.

I think it's from having air. I used to get the bag lettuce and not seal the bag back that also lasted longer.

Absorbs moisture, which would destroy them quickly. Like if you had a chopped salad by itself, it would soon get slimy. Put a folded up paper towel in and it would absorb the moisture coming off the vegetables and prevent it from condensing back onto the salad. Also works great if you get take-out fries. Without throwing paper towels or napkins in, a lot of the time they'd be a soupy mess before you got home.

I thought about other fruits and vegetables, but I've been storing cut onions in a paper towel for years. Well... Not the SAME onion.

Ha. It's just like the concept behind the crisper drawer. Some needs humidity, some will rot from it.

On a similar note... Is your brown sugar all dried up? Put it in a sealed container overnight with a slice of bread. The brown sugar will be like new. And you can then use the slice of dried up bread as a non lethal weapon.

Interesting. One time the brown sugar came with a little terra cotta gingerbread man that served that same purpose and we still use it.

I take it, Italian women don't check out the butts of men?
EDIT: The butt of Joe Biden
Italian women would be in the kitchen doing all the cooking.

I'm tempted to change it to Dear Hansby.
Here's a tip. Store leftover grocery bags crammed inside a cardboard tube from a roll of paper towels. It keeps them handy, if you don't mind unwinding the paper towel roll, and throwing all the towels away.
