I'm considering buying the Alienware X51 from Dell, mostly because it's cheap at it's most basic form.

I was wondering if any of you had any preferences when it comes to Gaming PC's.

Carry on....

As always.. With gaming PC's it's always BEST to scratch build your own.. It's more expensive up front but cheaper in the long haul

1TB HDD - $70: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822236339

Mouse/keyboard - $Recycle your current shit

^ Just a quick and dirty budget oriented newegg shopping trip...

$900 - And grossly superior to the Dell X51 if you're just willing to pay just $150 more.

BUT WAIT THERE IS MORE

That Dell is a lot of OEM proprietary hardware.. No internal power supply... That graphics card can't be upgraded at all since the computer is powered with a "just enough to run the PC" external power brick.. Where building your own gaming rig pays off is when you start upgrading because you can just recycle hardware or you just upgrade a single component. In less than a year when you're trying to run the newest (or current/some older) AAA titles at max graphics on that X51 PC and it's stuttering and forcing you to lower details you will have no upgrade route except..... Buying another "gaming rig".

Hmm...

Neat list. It seems it's definitely better to build up over a long time rather than all at once. It's cheaper and perhaps more powerful. Not too mention upgradeable if I really want to.

I just hope I can at least put a windows 7 OS on it.
