Memory Problems

For whatever reason my lapto is showing that I am low on memory. I've deleated big files but it still shows that I'm dangerously low on memory. What could be causing this?

What program is telling you that you're low on memory? It could just be a problem with the program that is reporting it. If you really are low on memory, one of your memory sticks could be bad.

It's coming up on the sidebar and when I go to "My Computer" it shows that I'm really low.

Try taking out one of the memory sticks. If it still runs, shut it down, take out that stick, put the other one back in, and boot up again. If it still runs, both sticks are good, and your problem is not related to the RAM.

If you've never removed or installed memory (RAM) sticks before, Google your laptop's model for instructions. Basic things to remember are, make sure it's not plugged in to the AC power, and remove the battery.

It's hard drive space. I don't have any porn on my computer though I do have a lot of music. It's odd though because I deleted a large file and it was good for awhile but the space gets used up again and I'm not sure why.

Defrag. You can use the built in Windows defrag, but I prefer Auslogics Defrag.

What's the difference other than it defrags faster than the built-in one? I defrag every two weeks, and do two different disk clean-ups. The only problems I have are from Google Chrome being such a behemoth, which can slow it down.

The main thing is that it's just faster. A lot faster. I'm not sure if it does a better job, but most programs like that do do a better job than what Windows puts in there. The one thing to look out for with a lot of them though is, make sure you read everything when you're installing them. You often have to uncheck stuff to make sure you don't also install stupid toolbars.

I downloaded and defragged and it was really quick. The problem now is it's saying I have a bunch of problems to clean up and they want me to buy the software. At the moment I 't have the cash for it. Do you know any free programs that can scrub the junk files I have?

Not only is it faster, but it actually tells you what kinds of files are fragmented( so you can try to keep from making those files) ,and how much of your HDD is fragmented .Microsoft's defragger doesn't do that anymore, or give you any idea how long its going to take

Almost any all in 1 tool should have something for clean up

The program is free. My advice costs $10. I'll let you slide this time. BTW... I run Advanced System Care every day, rather than waiting for the comp to get slow. If you do it often, it will never take long to run.

Actually, I think ASC has it's own defrag. I wouldn't bother with Auslogics unless your drive gets really bad. Just keep it on there in case you need it. I haven't had to use a defrag program in a while, since I have a solid state drive. You don't defrag those.
