Hey friends.
I have a router that Comcast gave us with our modem and it stinks. I was wondering if there is a really good router out there that could illuminate the entire house with no problems.
Anyone have any suggestions?

There is no such thing. They make these fucking things with the intent to resell new ones every few months. I fucking hate everything.

I'd look for a dual band router. They broadcast the signal on two simultaneous frequencies, so you'll often find that one frequency will reach places the other won't, eliminating "dead spots".
People run out and just buy the cheapest router they can find, but the really cheap routers suck. And I can guarantee you the cable company hands out the cheap-ass ones.

Also, one other thing I thought of: you're going to start seeing wireless routers out there on a new "802.11ac" connecton type. Don't pay extra for that. I don't know of any computers that are shippoing with 802.11ac cards yet, and unless you upgraded your wifi card yourself, you probably can't connect to a 802.11ac signal yet.
In fact, you probably should be sure that your computers and other devices can connect to 802.11n as well.

I burn through a router every year it seems like. I've spent a lot of money, no money, very little money.. Give or take a few months but yeah... They never last but about a year. I just resort to buying the cheapest possible shit now because it'll last just as long as the expensive shit.

I've only had two routers in 12 years. Both have been Lynksys, and both have been flawless. I've also had to deal with customer service on several brands (working on other people's comps) and Lynksys has always had the best.

I have a linksys but It's not carrying a strong signal through the entire house. We also have alot of devices that are connected to the interwebs which of course slows everything down in areas outside the general router area.
I guess I'll look into the Dual Band router thingy.
Thanks for the advice!

I've had a belkin for 4 years. Paid between $80-$100 then. Never really had a problem. I've been thinking about looking for a new one since it is so old and tech usually that old is out of date. I've been waiting for Fios to become available where I live but who knows when that's happening. I don't know if hooking a brand new wireless router up to Time Warner is worth it.

Strongest signals I've ever had are with netgear routers, but I've also had the most problems with them
Buy a compatible, cheap router and put DD-WRT (http://www.dd-wrt.com/site/index) on it.
