For techies out there,

When you initially boot windows, especially when you upgrade from a previous version, sometimes it will give you the option to boot to:

Microsoft Windows XP
Microsoft Windows

I accidentally installed another version of Microsoft Windows XP on my machine.

Now it says:
Microsoft Windows XP
Microsoft Windows XP
Microsoft Windows

I want to remove the c:winnt and the occurence of the other two windows so that it only says:

Microsoft Windows XP

Anyone know how to do that?

Jeff

Jeff,

I'm trained on NT and 2000, and have little practical experience with XP right now (We don't use it at work, and I'm not installing it at home for a while. But if it's similar to NT or 2000 in this respect, the following may work: If all you want to remove is the option of booting to an earlier version- if it's like Windows NT and 2000, there should be a "Startup/Shutdown" section in system properties. It has the list of bootable OS's in there. If you are trying to remove the actual installs (including all data, normally you can do that through "Add Remove Programs" which should allow you to remove something like "Windows Restore" or something...

Like I said, I'm going on NT and 2K here, but I hope this helps...

Why would you want more than one instance of Windows; are you a sadist?

My only advice is to ream yer hard drive, and install only one instance of Windows. Back up the stuff you love first so you don't lose anything.

Unless, of course, you installed stuff to different directories; then you could prolly find the one you want to hose in the add/remove programs area of windows.

I'd just ream the HD and start over though, if it were my machine.

When I installed Windows XP I put it on my D drive by accident and my Windows ME was on my C drive.

So when my PC starts up I have the option to use either, but I always use XP. I don't want to erase the ME one because I still have files on my C drive that I use.
