I only played the original Baldur's Gate way back when, so I don't remember much.

Was this game turn-based as in it would pause to allow you to choose your actions or was it constant action that you had to have lightning reflexes to issue commands to everyone in your party?

I personally don't like the latter type of games because it becomes too frenetic. I prefer the game to pause and let me think out my next move.

Anyone know how the combat works in this new edition?

It's exactly the same as the first edition, in that it does pause and let you pick your actions for the next round. It's very similar to playing Dungeons & Dragons in that way.

That's going to be especially good for the iPad edition, because I've found that games that require constant action can be problematic on the touch screen. I mean, think about what's probably the most successful game ever on smartphones, Angry Birds. You angle your shot and pull back and release, and you might tap on some of the birds later to do something (like make them speed up, blow up, or split into a group of smaller birds), but you aren't constantly controlling the movement like you would on a Xbox game.

That's good. For $20 I may consider picking this up.

Oh, by the way, it appears as if the release date has been pushed back to November now.
