Everyone talks about Jerry Reese being this genius and admittedly he's done fairly well overall so far, but our secondary has always been the weak link and they still have done nothing to make it better.
How long is going to be before they wake up and realize that these clowns can't cover shit? Oh, and I don't even want to hear that Amukamara and Thomas are hurt. It's not like they were studs that would have done any better.

Hence my comment on Amukamara and Thomas. Yes, we have injuries back there, but even when they were all healthy our starters were never good enough to cover the elite WRs of the league.
The Giants D - Front line = excellent, Linebackers = very good, Secondary = garbage.

i agree, but with those 2 at least, we woulda found enough coverage to at least win that game last night. Also lets not forget that we were planning on running those 3 saftey packages with Tyler Sash before the Ginger Hammer laid down 4 games of suspension

Looks like sportswriters are taking the chance to slurp Tony Romo's balls after last night:
Make no mistake, this first night of the 2012 NFL season was a huge litmus test for the hotly debated Dallas quarterback. He needed to confront the recent demons that have haunted him in this stadium and against these Giants, and he needed to prove that his third trip here in the span of a mere 17 regular-season games would be the charm. All that hung in the balance was the Cowboys' sense of self-respect in an NFC East rivalry that had grown lopsided of late, and perhaps Romo finally taking a vital step in erasing his reputation for not being able to win the biggest games, or get it done in crunch time.
What a resounding answer Romo provided: 22 of 29 passing, for 307 yards, with three scoring passes, one interception, and the Cowboys offense not being stopped on its final five drives, spanning the last 35 minutes of the game. Feeding off Romo's lead, as always, Dallas responded with an impressive 24-17 upset of the defending Super Bowl champions, stunning the Giants and a record crowd that was in the mood to celebrate.

Saints players won on appeal...
https://twitter.com/AdamSchefter/status/244155857649164288
With Saints winning appeal, suspensions are voided as Roger Goodell doesn't have jurisdiction and Stephen Burbank does.
https://twitter.com/NFL_RealUpdates/statuses/244161404989476865
The suspensions of #Saints coaches Sean Payton and Joe Vitt as well as GM Mickey Loomis will remain, only the players aren't suspended.
razorboy
09-07-2012, 12:14 PM
From what I gather this means that the panel ruled that Goodell doesn't have the authority to suspend players for illegal payments, only intent to injure per the CBA and that he can still suspend them if he justifies it as such.
This seems more like a delay to an end than anything else.

seems plausible now but i doubt that was the case
i think it was more along the lines of getting sanchez a threat to his spot, however unlikely to get him to either fail miserably or succeed the way they want
and also to get some tebow rub, and just to make the opponent have to spend time preparing for a tebow package

The Bills, the team that was a hipster sleeper pick to win the AFC East? The Bills, whose reloaded defense was so vaunted?
If they Jets were as bad as they were touted as being, this would have been like a 17-14, sloppy game.
I know the Bills looked bad, but good teams embarrass bad teams. Good, efficient teams take advantage of mistakes.
It was only week 1. I know. But it just shows that preseason is worthless and the fact of the matter is, the Jets have three WR options, the line is MUCH improved now that Hunter is gone, and the offense is - WELL BALANCED. Holy shit.

and if hill even produces 50% of what he did the rest of the way theyll be solid at wr
and the best thing was that they went up and down the field twice with sanchez and scored before turnovers gave them points cause otherwise people would just be saying well of course sanchez played good with a huge lead thanks to defense and run game cause of lead

OK. The "edgy" pick was taking the Bills because they were so much better.
That said, the point still stands is that the Bills were apparently much, much improved - ESPECIALLY on defense.
And the Jets were really, REALLY bad on offense. That they had no offensive line.
That said, Sanchez was hardly touched and the one INT was a tipped ball after a broken play.

I say this again. He is a Brad Smith player. That is what he's always been. And McElroy is capable too.
It's not like the Jets are carrying four QBs.
And if he comes onto the field as a TE, or a QB, or whatever, and Sanchez is on the field, and the defense isn't prepared... who knows what will happen?
Backup QBs usually don;'t get a sniff of the field, so for him to be there, contributing SOMETHING, means that he's not a wasted spot.

Look, I want to clarify something before this gets out of control. Again.
Did I say OMG the Jets are going to the Super Bowl?
No.
But it's obvious the Jets were holding back a lot during the preseason, and we'll see how it goes next week against Pittsburgh. That's all. I feel good about today's win, but again, it's only week 1.
The positives are the line looks much better with Wayne Hunter gone, and Kerley and Hill look good with Santonio.
However, I have a deathly feeling that Laron Landry is gonna do something really fucking stupid that's going to cost the Jets.

Listening to Merril Reese rip the replacement refs in the Eagles game during the 4th quarter was just brilliant. At one point the ref called a penalty but couldnt find his flag, so he threw a bean bag. Then they announced the wrong yardage for the penalty so they had to move the yard of scrimmage twice. This was all within 30 seconds. He had me ROLLING.

Tampa got jobbed the the refs. By the Ref's very statement - "the player had POSSESSION temporarily...." You either have possession or you don't. If you have possession temporarily, that's a fumble.
The Tampa WR had the ball, got the feet in, and took a step and a half. That is ABSOLUTELY possession.
The refs were also shit in the Jets/Tampa game, but the loss isn't on them. The Jets had some stupid-ass plays after looking very crisp in the beginning.
Landry is gonna be the death of this team. Just stupid fucking late hits.

No......
You can have pos temporarily, but you still have to make a FOOTBALL MOVE before you go down. That is what the ref said.
Now you can debate if he did or did not make a football move, but you are wrong on that statement.
And Yes, that non fumble should have been overturned.

Their defense is playing awesome, creating turnovers (4 takeaways first game, 3 today) and they are winning despite turning over the ball at ridiculous rates. If they can ever stop turning the ball over they are going to be incredibly tough to beat. They were going up and down the field all day on the Ravens (486 total yards). The only thing stopping them from two blowouts victories was themselves.
That being said I have little confidence that they will stop turning over the ball.

As far as the refs go, all I can say is Roger Goodell is the worst thing to happen to the NFL.....EVER.
Lets see his lagacy so far...
- Fine players for legal hits, with absolutely zero consistency. Deciding how much or how little the player has to play with a flip of a coin.
- Tried his damndest to take the violence out of football.
- Suspended a coach for a year.
- Wrongfully overstepped his bounds in suspending players without evidence which hes now getting called out for.
- Letting scab refs fuck up calls the first 2 weeks of this season because he didnt want to pay the real ones.
What else am I missing? Feel free to add on.

if they went and accepted the REFS proposal in that deal, fully without concessions, it would add a cost of $75,000 per year per team.
Thats right, 75K, not 750, 75
As far as Goodell being a tyrant, I agree, the man is a cancer on the game, but the players agreed to give him those powers in the CBA. Goodell really is their own fault.

We ran the "zero wedge" (QB sneak) in high school in lieu of a "victory formation" for this very reason, and once in a JV game, they didn't line up a nose guard over our center, and I damn near ran it into the end zone without even really trying.
The other coach was livid because we were up 4 td's, but fuck them if they gave up. The next play, they defended it like any other short yardage formation, and I took a knee, but my line still fired off the ball like we were going for it.

i played saftey in HS, strong saftey. There was ALOT of times where the other offense was taking knees against us. We played against Chris Simms' Ramapo team, they started taking knees with like 7 min left cause we were down by 70.
Anyway, there was a game one time where as a saftey, i tried to time the snap and dive in and smack the ball out of the centers hand before he got it to the QB. I damn near timed it perfect, i just missed the ball and I sent the left guard flyin backwards. We were down like 24 at the time and there was like 1 min left so it was kind of a dick move.
i guess the other coach didnt like it cause the next play they threw a 60 yard TD right at the guy I shoulda been covering and we lost by 31

i played saftey in HS, strong saftey. There was ALOT of times where the other offense was taking knees against us. We played against Chris Simms' Ramapo team, they started taking knees with like 7 min left cause we were down by 70.

Fucking hate that shit. Good for you.
It's one thing to put in back-up players and just running it up the middle with a big lead, but don't fucking try to embarrass someone by kneeling with half a quarter or more to go.

This ref situation in the NFL is becoming more and more embarrassing for them:
In Week 2, a number of specific games drew criticism for the work of the replacement referees. Among those was the Ravens-Eagles game, which got more than a little chippy. It should absolutely help matters, then, that Philadelphia running back LeSean McCoy said on Monday that one of the refs in his game was talking about his fantasy football team.
McCoy joined 94 WIP's Anthony Gargano and Ike Reese on Monday and was asked about the job the refs are doing. The running back called them "fans" and said that one of them specifically mentioned his fantasy team, during the game.
"They're like fans, kind of though,” McCoy said. “I'll be honest, they're like fans. One of the refs was talking about his fantasy team, like ‘McCoy, come on, I need you for my fantasy,' ahhh, what?!"
Now, McCoy said this jokingly, laughing about the comment. But we have to assume he's being serious when he quotes someone on a public radio show, especially since he cited another specific example of Ray Lewis basically scaring a replacement ref by puffing up his chest.
"During the game, they made like a bad call or something, the ref, and I see Ray Lewis like pump his chest up, trying to scare him,” McCoy said. "Don't you know [the ref] started stuttering? I'm like ‘what's this?!'"
Hey Godell, you can't just bus in some clowns from Arena League 7, put stripes on them, and say they are worthy of refereeing NFL games.
What a fucking disgrace.

if they went and accepted the REFS proposal in that deal, fully without concessions, it would add a cost of $75,000 per year per team.
Thats right, 75K, not 750, 75

Not only is the money nothing within the big picture, its probably the wisest investment they make.
With these scab refs you are endangering player safety, blowing calls and leaving yourself open to security breaches. What would a security breach be in the NFL?
Gamblers.
Hey Roger Goodell, want a gambling scandal? Keep these scab refs on the field, cuz it'll happen and your game will be ruined. All because he wanted to save a couple of meaningless bucks.

Well, you already had that one dope joking to a player about how he was on his fantasy team. That was pretty clearly a joke, of course, but you can't even joke about that shit if you're a referee. You cannot allow anything that shows any rooting interest in one team or the other at all.

Also, it took them about 20 minutes to figure out a holding penalty during the Eagles game. They are getting more atrocuious each week.

i was tryin to figure out why in the fuck he threw the hat. I saw only this gif thats in this thread, but it doesnt appear anyone went near running out of bounds and then coming back in. If it doesn't go over the top then there's something concrete they can examine. If it goes over it's all camera angles and shit. Maybe if they installed lasers or something coming out of the top of the goalposts?
