Apologies in advance if there was already a thread started, but I didn't see one.

This latest path shows Issac headed straight for my house. I don't actually live in Mobile, just work over here. House is across the bay right about where that last hurricane symbol is on the map.
Couldn't happen at a worse time. If I have to shut the shops down for more than one day next week, I'm screwed.
If it's gonna be a direct hit, I just hope it gets it over with quickly, so we can clean up and get back to work. If this fucker stalls, or lingers around a few days, we'll just have to work through it. Bad thing is, so many folks commute across bridges and rely on tunnels, and when those close, it's hard to get people to find another way into work.
Just really glad Auburn is playing Clemson in the Georgia dome Saturday. Hopefully this thing can't screw that up for me.
Furtherman is gonna be pissed.

We're all just fine. Thanks for asking.
Shops stayed open all day yesterday, and 80% or so made it in today, so work didn't suffer (yet).
Mobile and the eastern shore made it through just fine. Some folks that live over in Mississippi or near the line are still hunkering down.
I've only caught bits and pieces about Nawlins. I'm guessing if it was bad I would have heard more.
Someone already said that this was being overhyped by the liberal media to purposefully take away attention from the Rep Con, and that if it wasn't enough, then Obama would just blow the levee like Bush did.
I hate this place most of the time.

Fucking Issac (or "Invest 90L"... or possibly "Tropical Storm Nadine" if it re-forms) just won't go away.

Invest 90L In The North-Central Gulf Of Mexico:
.....I do think that this will become a tropical depression and very possibly a tropical storm (its name would be Nadine) by later tonight or during the day Friday. I think at most we may see a 45 or 50 mph tropical storm out of this. This system is expected to meander around the northeastern Gulf of Mexico from today through Friday before that trough of low pressure pulls it east-northeastward across northern Florida from about Crystal River to Daytona Beach on Saturday night as a 40 to 50 mph tropical storm (heavy rainfall would be the main threat across northern & central Florida). From there, a track east-northeastward into the open Atlantic seems probable by early next week.

Most live in either Inwood or Washington Heights. There are pockets of them in other areas like Spanish Harlem, I'm sure you know that already but This is for people who live out of the NYC area who might not be aware of the ethnic structure. Brooklyn and Queens are the most diverse with Chinese, Pakistani Middle Eastern, Russian and Eastern European communities.
The Bronx probably remains the most hispanic out of all the Boros

is it possible that they just let the thing go all "limp dick" like that on purpose? It could be that that's the best way to ride the storm out, let it swing in the breeze instead of fighting it.

Of course they oversold it. I saw them interviewing some entitled couple in a manhattan apt. overlooking ground zero. The reporter was saying what a tough time they had since they had to live there during reconstruction (not 9/11, just the rebuilding) and now flooding and power outages. The "man" in his sweater vest pinch-facedly agreed what a rough time they had had in their apartment. I saw reporters standing in 6 inch water dancing around to act like they were being blown around by wind. Some network was "Storm Central" and had Twister sound effects over their dramatic transitions.
I'm not saying this isn't a big storm, but the media's masturbatory fakery is a seperate issue. And for perspective, I would recommend watching the nat geo documentary on the 2004 tsunami disasters that killed almost 1/4 million people. It is literally one of the saddest things I have ever watched.

Not sure what is worse, the no power thing or the neighbor next door with the loud ass generator shoving their electricity having fumes/noise in my face!?
it was so hot after Isabelle that we HAD to keep our windows open...I came to HATE every neighbor that ran their generators at night
the refrigerators and freezers will maintain over night if you don't keep opening them...run them during the day and power down for 7 to 8 hours each night
who the fuck would believe that moving to Florida wuld avoid a motherfucker of a storm back home
I joked to my mom about that -- that she and my Dad are safer down in Florida than they would have been back up in CT.

This whole "States should handle their own shit" mentality the Romney and the GOP is standing on regarding FEMA should be rammed down everyone's throats via the media the next 6 days. It's kinda' hard when a state and/or local government is destroyed by a natural disaster for it to mobilize rescue and recovery efficiently if AT ALL. It's just common sense. Especially under Ryan's budget where aid to states for just this sorta thing would be cut. Unreal. They should be hung out to dry on this. Romney dodging every question about him wanting to do away with FEMA at that photo-op-of-a canned food drive is infuriating.
I never really liked Christie but I gotta' respect the guy for being honest and not following the GOP line in all of this. It's about rebuilding and recovery not politics.
And fuck anyone even trying to cry foul about the dems or the media making this disaster political fodder to use on Romney because that disingenuous sonofabitch jumped at the chance to attack Obama on the Benghazi embassy attack while the fires were sill fucking burning. When a candidate for president of the united states talks about doing away with federal disaster relief during his campaign it's very topical and poignant to question him about it DURING A FEDERAL DISASTER.

Well if the states were able to keep their own money and not have to send so much to DC, They would have that money to use for resources.
Christie and other governors taking federal money are not hypocrites since they paid for them. Its people like you who call people who were taxed for 40 years to pay into a failed retirement system hypocrites, but all they want is their money back

The wife usually has an air purifier running, so i dont mind the background noise. Actually looking forward to going in to work tomorrow. Get out of the house, see some other people. Overall, it blows not having power, but only at night. I can sit on the porch and smoke some cigs, chillout, bullshit with the neighbors...nighttime is awful. Currently sitting in my car charging phones, listening to sirius. The other option is go inside and either go to bed, or try to read a book i had previously had on my Nook which is a tough fuckin read. (ancient aliens are a subject made for tv, not so much in book form)

During disaster time, men don't sleep. You should be out foraging and taking out walkers during the day and securing the perimeter at night. Let the womenfolk get their rest at night so they can tinker about in the kitchen during the day, tanning hides, canning tomatoes, and producing breast milk. No one said being a man was going to be as easy as being a woman.

We've been doing what we can to help out around us. Didn't have to go far to find people hurting a lot more than us.

Westchester looks like the 1970's with gas lines. My brother who is a cop told me that they are directing traffic just to get in the stations. The one he is near, already had 3 delivery trucks refuel them in less than 12 hours. Most were getting fuel for generators
I am grateful we dodged a bullet here in Stamford. If there is a God. Thank you
I had to go to Yonkers and wait a half hour for gas today.
Drove up the Merritt afterward, and I think every station was closed before New Haven.
It's just utter craziness.

as dense as the population is in some of the affected areas, I imagine it will be a while before the gas lines get "back to normal"...have they started capping how much gas you can purchase in one visit?

That gas station in Harrison off the Hutch before the Merritt/684 split had a line of about 2 miles. County cops had to control that line

Partly true, but mis-leading.
Huntsville, Joe Wheeler utilities deny claims of union discrimination during Sandy response (http://mobile.al.com/advbirm/db_/contentdetail.htm?contentguid=KcocFC42&full=true#display)
"That's a rumor," he said. "We are starting work this morning with Long Island Power Authority. We were headed to a New Jersey utility but they had all the crews they could handle."
"It is not true for us," she said. "I don't know how we got lumped in there (in that report). We sent eight guys to Maryland, not New Jersey. They have been there since before the storm but they've finished work and are headed home this morning."
"We were not turned away," he said. "It's a lot more complicated than that. One of the problems is whenever this kind of thing happens people call and ask, 'Are you going to send crews out?' but it's not a situation where everybody jumps in truck and heads up there. You have to work through trade associations. You have mutual-aid agreements and you've got to find a system that needs you and is able to take you."
He said some systems don't use the same voltage and may have different configurations. "You don't just go up there and say, 'Hey, we're here. We're going to start putting up poles for you."
"We've been through enough of these situations," he said. "We know how these things work."
But then they amended, and added what makes this partly true:
The general manager of the other department mentioned, Decatur Utilities, has since verified claims that his workers were asked to affiliate with a union.

I think Ronnie tried to squish this the day before he announced it. When Fez said he got a car service and arrived early (with all the traffic nightmares getting in to Manhattan post Sandy), Ron questioned how he could have got there so fast from Roosevelt Island. On the day OF the secret, Ron backhandedly mentioned that Fez actually had moved to the East Village. Whether this is the full extent of the secret remains to be seen...
