Money has become tight for everyone. Its hard to come by and hard to give up.I have been freshing up one of my houses to rent and found I needed to replace the cellar stairs (90 yrs old).I asked a friend for a fair estimate(only 6 stairs) and was given a price that Donald Trump couldnt cover. My friend wont be getting any christmas card this year. I went to the papers for a carpenter and they wanted what NASA would charge to build stairs on MARS.So I gritted my teeth, put on my tool belt(novice carpenter) and did it my self. Thank God for home depot.

got a story....lets hear it.

I just got home from six days in Vegas. The entire trip was comped including airfare. Also, came home with $900 more in my pocket then when I left. So there's your answer right there.

Since Papabear's not here, I'll fill in for him...

"He can't tell you because what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas."

You're welcome.

Bingo.

Also, I was walking down Las Vegas Blvd. at 4:30 in the morning when I witnessed a racially motivated brawl. Four white guys beating the shit out of a black guy - calling him the "N'" word the whole time. The police show up, put the black guy in cuffs and in the back of the squad car and let the white guys go. Also, riding along with the police was a film crew from the show "Cops". So, look for me in the background on tv next season.

Anyway, to relate this story to this thread: way to beat the recession - Don't be a black guy.

If you do, you better include the proper context.

Im guessing he gambles alot. I had a VIP card to Ballys in AC from the time I was 17. The first time I went to Vegas I went with my grandfather, uncle, and 4 cousins. 3 of them were considered high rollers. They comped our food, rooms and airfare for the whole trip.

As far as beating the recession goes, I found my wife and I had a talent for custom cakes, so I started marketing them on FB 3 years ago. In that time Ive sold over 300 cakes and our prices have gotten to about $150 a cake.

I also signed up on the email lists of a focus group company and a product testing company. I get emails all the time seeing if I qualify for certain studies. Last week they paid me $65 to taste Earl Gray tea and tell them what I thought of it, and another $60 to watch a pilot for a new reality TV show about a car salesman and his son from Vermont who will take items in trade for downpayments in lew of cash. It was like American Chopper meets Pawn Stars. Wasnt bad. He sold one guy a trailer for a collection of dolls. And took a downpayment on a truck for $2500 worth of maple syrup.

I've stopped robbing liquor stores -- too dangerous and too little money -- and just stuck to robbing banks. They just give the money right up!

Being a carpenter the recession hasn't really effected me much. In fact renovations are up while new construction is down. I charge considerably more to rebuild old stairs over building new stairs so this is working out great for me. I only use 16d nails, none of that penny crap.
