Gotta love the Winter Games.
The luge. Hockey. Downhill Skiing. Speed Skating. Just can't get enough! Besides, it's one of the few times I can be proud of my Norwegian/Swedish heritage. USA first, but these games were invented by my ancestors, you should see my "triple axel" LOL

I can sometimes get into the Olympics, except when they make it like a soap opera with all the background stories and everything...it can be too much at times! And whats frustrating is that it's not always live, so it's not too satisfying watching an event that actually happened 12 hours ago. Thankfully this year it's in the USA so much of it should/might be live coverage.
But ya gotta love speed skating!

I actually started a thread about a month ago called "Olympics- Do you care" about whether or not you really care about the Olympics and with the exception of hockey, most people really didn't. Personally I don't and I think the Olympics is really more something that you feel you're supposed to like rather than something you actually do.

What? LOL
Seriously, it's a matter of personal taste. The networks do a lousy job these days, making the events cheesy with tearjerking human interest stories and melodramatic nonsense, unlike the Canadians (CBC), who cover the games professionally, the way ABC did years ago.
Then again, I like soocer! ;)

I dont like what the olympics has done within the last decade, allow pros to play in big sports. I mean the NHL is stupid to allow there players to go, and as an Islander fan I am opposed cause there are a few players that are leaving to play when they should be concentrating on a run for the cup...that is one argument against pros. The other argument, and chief is that the olmpics was supposed to showcase the best amateur athletes in the world. Now that everything is stocked full of the pros we might as well just call them the World Games as opposed to the olympics.
I know someone will oppose me and point out that the Russians (or Ruskies as they were more popularly called) had stocked the Olympics full of pros for years. 1) how good are Russian pros really?? They couldnt beat the 1980 US Team. 2) old saying; two wrongs do not make a right . And allowing pros is like allowing wrong activities to continue. How will some up and coming amateur be able to prove her/his mettle if they arent allowed to prove themselves in the games? They wont, cause there showcase has been removed from beneath there feet...

I don't care about the olympics.
I'm lucky if I catch one bit of them.
However, I do enjoy the prospect of the United States kicking other countries' asses in sports.

The problem was that United States was sending non professional and we were not winning enough medals.. then some countries talked some smack about our athletes not being as good.. so then we got pissed and sent in the Dream Team... now no one will ever win in basketball until we say so... most sports we have non pros until some stupid ass talks smack and our olympic committee gets pissed....

I had a whole long reply planned out, but I don't feel like typing it, so I'll say this...
The Dream Team won in the last Olympics barely, almost losing 3 games. They beat one team by only 1 point and really should have lost. It's only a matter of time before then do, so don't be shocked it in the next few years they do. With the infusion of better foreign players into the NBA, and the lack of caring by most of the athletes on the Dream Team NOW, it's only a matter of time. I'm a die hard NBA fan, but that's the truth.

Good point Sunny.
The problem is that too many American players leave school early, and never develop basic fundamental skills. The foreign plays may lack natural ability, but play a fundamentally sound game; they can shoot, pass and play defense. The NBA has become a mess. Too much showboating, bad shooting and schoolyard crap. The NBA's TV ratings are DOWN over 30%, and now they just sign a new deal with ESPN/ABC that would put most games on cable. They are killing themselves.
Now back to the Luge!
