Up until a few weeks ago I was not too happy about the 2012 Season. With some new arms and still a powerful lineup, things look better.
Latest on Burnett is that the Pirates show interested and he is blocking any deals to the West coast
Tampa or bust

If they actually find a taker for Burnett... Anything else they accomplish this season will be a bonus whether or not they pay the rest of his contract.

It sickens me that they might have to eat $20 million of the $33 million still owed, but I might be happy enough seeing him go to not mind quite so much. It'll anger me more that this is yet another in a long line of contracts that Yankee haters will bitch about them being able to eat...and to a degree they're not wrong.
He wasn't Carl Pavano bad/worthless, but he was Kevin Brown frustrating. Good riddance.

I can't believe they traded AJ. You have to give Cashman credit for this. Even if he goes to have a decent 2 years, I think it is good he is out of here.

Yea I never loved the signing, if you look at his numbers I do not think they were worth the money. but I do like that he had the balls to admit his mistake and move him out of there. yea the yanks are eating a ton of money, but to not have him in the clubhouse as a distraction all year is worth it to me.

Not really.
They had to eat 20mil and I'm sure the prospects aren't grade A.
6MIL for a pitcher with his stuff in a weak division isn't a huge gamble for the Bucs

Piniella will work a schedule of games both in the broadcast booth and studio. He will also contribute to YES special event programming and potential postseason coverage. Piniella will make his debut during YES’ spring training coverage.

Should be interesting in the coming years as Cano will seek a mega deal after the 2013 season. He hired Boras as his agent,
Theres talk that this will be Riveras last year so if thats the case. 15MM gets taken off the payroll for 2013. Swisher wants to test free agency after this season.

the yanks alone are ranked 29th in the league with teams hitting .281 vs them
the Jays, 6th at .225 (56 pts higher and a WHOLE lot of spots bt them)
(12th vs. 27th in WHIP too)
bottom line, not so "on par", in fact I see this getting much worse for the yanks bc somehow teams aren't putting up the runs they should with those type numbers against them...TB's pitching will rebound soon too.

while I'm ripping the yank pitching, I'd be a liar if I acted like the Jays don't have issues this year as well
better than last year, HELL YAH
- but we just lost our closer Santos, who already blew multiple saves. who fills in? they say old timer cordero, I say Janssen by a MILE
-our #2 Morrow looks like a young AJ Burnett, never tapping his amazing arm/ability fully as he walks tons and the movement on his 99mph fastball was non-existant last time out
-our #4 is making strides (Drabek), but he's now walking too many again as his command has clearly been a problem in the past. even though he's 2-0 and has a nice era, his last start was iffy at best and looked like he regressed, yet battled better and the team did win in his no dec. next start will tell A LOT here
- our #5, ???? so far we've used two kids here, BOTH too early as we wait for Laffey to find his game (he's awful even when he does have it). Carreno and Hutchinson (going to be REAL good) were not ready, but can hold the fort here and there.
* Damn I realize I love baseball a ton when I do rundowns like this. Man I hope MLB evens the playing field soon so it's not this bs system we have now ruining the inherit passion of so many great baseball fans NOT in big markets. With Selig around, I just don't see it happening.

Its not just this trade.
Every goddamn young pitcher he has traded for has blown fucking ass.
And why do all these pitchers keep getting hurt and miss-used?
Take off your pinstriped glasses.
It all falls on the GM, HE needs to see that something is going wrong and fucking change it.

As Yankees. Guys like Burnett, Pavano, Kennedy, Wang and Karstens all seem to have done better elsewhere. Injuries notwithstanding, maybe it's just being young and not being able to cope with the pressure of NY.

my argument is most are still being very quick to react here, much less judge a long term trade on something as freak as an injury here. blaming a gm for an arm injury seems JUST A LITTLE off too
my issue with the yanks are that they traded a player to fill a pitching role they EASILY could have gone out and got on the free agency market and have all the money in the world to spend. yes it pisses me off, but why move a "can't miss" hitting prospect even if bad behind the plate, when you could have just did the norm and buy guys like Darvish, Wilson, Jackson, Buehrle and more pluggers as well. In the end, you're paying Kuroda the same as Darvish in the end and you surely could have afforded that buy off price and recouped it with the Japanese market in the NYC area and abroad.

Well I agree with most of what you said.
However this org has now had a bad history of pitchers getting hurt or missued.
And The GM gets a lot of the credit for a winning team and should get most of the blame.
Its his job to find out wtf is going wrong and change it.
Garret Cole was from so cal, and I have a feeling he asked Kennedy about the Yankees when draft and he told him stay away.

I was against this trade, not because Pineda got injured or because he stinks or anything but because the minor league system is stacked with pitching prospect and short on bats. But to call any trade of of players this young a failure is insanity. We don't know yet if Montero will develop or if Pineda will recover or how effective he will be if he does. We don't know what will happen with Noesi or Campos either. But to blame Cashman because Pineda got injured is absolute fucking nonsense.
Yeah, Cashman has made some bad trades. He's also made some good moves. This team won a World Series a couple years ago and has only missed the playoffs once in however many years. That doesn't happen with a complete incompetent as GM.

He has only won WS when he has either had a entire system GIVEN to him.
Or spent a gagilllion dollars.
I blame him because he has failed to pinpoint the problem of why these pitchers in this franchise have been misused.

Sadly, Theo has come close. Yes, I'm grateful for the 2 World Series -- but it turns out they came at a high price. I look around the league and see ex-Red Sox players everywhere. And some of his moves were mind-bogglingly awful.

You give him hell over the starting staff but you never mention that he has built a monster of a bullpen. And that's even if you discount Soriano who is wasted in there, wasting a lot of money and who Cashman didn't want anyway.
And the Yankees are always going to spend a lot of money, more than anyone else. They have it and they'll always use it to improve the team. You can't kill him especially when, for that one season anyway, he absolutely nailed all 3 of those signings. It's easy to forget how important and good Burnett was that season.

Cano is still on a tear.
If youre Cashman do you trade Cano next year? You can get a lot for him or do you risk him becoming a free agent? He hired Boras as his agent and will be 32 next year. He could ask for 10 years and over 200 million if he keeps posting good numbers. Tough situation because the Steinbrenners want to cut payroll

Ouch!!!
What do they yanks do now? Bring up Nunez? I think hes been playing mostly shortstop in the minors or have Chavez the everyday 3B? hes not been an everyday player in years. Ive heard talk today of them trading for Ty Wiggington who wouldnt put a dent in the payroll

I want no part of that goddamn error machine, Nunez.
Why not just call up Ramiro Pena and have them platoon 75 errors between themn

Indians cut him loose a month or so ago. The Sox were even thinking about bringing him back but I'm glad they didn't. He deserves better than this awful Sox team.

I know Boston and LA have been in the news for trade talk. Yanks should move Cano during offseason or at the very least listen to offers. His stock will be high.

Just a few weeks ago the Yankees had a 10 game lead. Now they are just a couple of games ahead in the AL East. I see another 1st round elimination this year. Thats if they dont have a complete meltdown

With Nunez, Ibanez, McGee, Nix, Jones and Chavez getting regular time in the lineup... Nope. They aren't going anywhere.

On the bright side, there doesn't seem to be any smear campaign for YOUR collapse like the was last year for the Red Sox.
