I'm writing a report for school and I can't find the hardware requirements anywhere for the MS DOS operating system. Any version. I've always had good luck on this site with random info.

I imagine to get to the dos prompt that the operating system is installed. I know the entire system can fit on a single disk with room to spare. I just need to know the minimum system requirements that an old computer needed to install the system.

I think it'll run on a 286 or was it a 386 processor.

As I began to research the history of Windows, I came across a little nugget that answered my question on the microsoft windows website. "Remember floppy disks and kilobytes? Windows 1.0 requires a minimum of 256 kilobytes (KB), two double-sided floppy disk drives, and a graphics adapter card. A hard disk and 512 KB memory is recommended for running multiple programs or when using DOS 3.0 or higher. "

This seems like a very boring discussion.

Intel 8086 processors predated 286's and I think there were even earlier processors that ran DOS. When I was a kid we had a Tandy TRS-80 with cassette drive! That ran DOS and had less than 512k memory I think.
