Rosie O'Donnell kills endangered shark

Rosie O'Donnell and her family caught huge hammerhead sharks in fishing trips off the South Florida coast.

Now the TV personality is catching abuse from environmentalists, irate at the killing of ocean predators that are considered overfished around the globe. Florida banned killing them Jan. 1, long after O'Donnell's fishing trips.

Mark "The Shark" Quartiano, the famous Miami Beach shark fishermen who guided the expeditions, recently posted a photo of O'Donnell next to a dead hammerhead on his web site as "This Month's Celebrity Angler." Since then, as other photos of O'Donnell shark-killing expeditions surfaced, environmentalists have attacked her via Facebook and Twitter accounts, accusing her of going after species that are struggling to survive.

"Right now sharks are the most endangered animals around," said Erik Brush, a Sarasota marine conservationist who helped start the campaign against O'Donnell. "This is basically an endorsement. It sends the message that it's an OK activity. And this is not an activity that we want celebrities endorsing."

O'Donnell's publicist did not respond to requests for comment.

Quartiano defended the trips, which took place over the past two or three years, calling O'Donnell "a great angler. She's very conservation-minded. We've caught a lot of fish and released a lot of fish. We've also caught fish for eating and trophies."

i know about that genetically. but i cant imagine our muscles are anywhere near as soft as theirs. It would be really hard to tenderize a full grown adult. on a serious note, they actually dont for the most part. Bull sharks might be an exception, and they are responsible for like 90% of attacks on humans. But for the most part, sharks dont like us. They bite us cause we are swimming in a way that makes us look like a seal or big fish. thats why people usually just get bit once and then end up gettin away with just the one bite (and sometimes dying from blood loss). you very rarely here someone getting eating by a shark and just being gone.

They come up thinkin we are seals (especially if we are on a surfboard paddling off the side) bite us, realize we arent what they thought, and let us go and leave, usually. its just that, by then the damage is done and the blood attracts other sharks who just dont know yet that we arent seals

Jaws fucked up alot of people, and they take it out on the fuckin WRONG sharks. Jaws used a great white cause everyone would be more scared of it, but thats not actually the shark that really ever fucks with people.

In fact, other than the debate about what shark came up the river in jersey way back in the day and ate those kids (it was a bull shark btw, not a great white), i believe there is ZERO documented cases of great whites attacking people in NJ. The reason is they are half blind. The water here is so dirty they cant even fuckin see. So they just kinda stay away.

Bull sharks are the evil fucks. If someone told me they killed a bull shark, i would say i hope you left it dead in the water as a message for the other ones.

I shot one the other day and another deer was hanging around - not running away but checking me out. When I came out of the stand that deer ran off but returned within 50 yds of me while I was gutting his cousin. I could have shot him twice - stupid deer.

I've taken to eating Swai, because it's the cheapest alternative to catfish. But it's not as good. And yes... I know Swai and catfish aren't ocean fish. But the Swai is around because fish in general is so expensive, due to over consumption.

Being at least 70 miles from the ocean, we don't have a lot of choices. Plus, it's a small city. We have very few choices when it comes to real fish shops, so pretty much anything you get has to come from a grocery store.

yea thats a good point. and our grocery stores here are actually pretty good with fish and meats. in house butchers, etc. they do it up well. but being we are so close, shit is probably cheaper. Some of the fish i eat (winter flounder) is actually caught mostly in NJ
