It's always here and now my friend.
It ain't once upon a time.
It's all over but the shouting.
This new music is a crime.

I guess they need the money.

Sammy Hagar has to be smiling. I heard him on the Adam Carolla podcast last year and he said he sold the Cabo Wabo tequila brand he started for $100 million. He said now he does what he wants because he wants to, not because he has to.

It's a VH song, it sounds like one. sure DLR has dropped down a few octaves, but it's a VH song. You only like old VH songs because when they came out they fit. If Runnin With The Devil came out new, today, you wouldn't like it, it wouldn't fit. This song will fit right into their set of oldies and keep the concert rolling along nicely. Besides, it's better than Me Wise Magic.

The thing I took away from this is Wolfgang's still big but now he looks like he can kick the shit out of you rather than some fat wimp.

Let's be honest. Outside of A+ groups like U2, do people still go to concerts wanting to hear new songs from a band that's been around for 30+ years?

The money for the band isn't in the album, it's in the tour.

I read the other day - after a decade and a half of people bitching they wanted DLR back - that they don't like Van Halen because Anthony's gone. I mean, what the fuck? He added a strong backing vocal, but was his bass a super integral part of VH's sound?

That is beyond embarassing. But also, go back and listen to their old shit again, it doesn't hold up at all. I put them in the bands for children category like KISS

exactly what I was saying, the new song sounds like a VH song, it'll fit in their set fine and rock the classic rock lovin crowds at their shows. They're not trying to compete with modern bands, just please the old crowd

Yes... Mike Anthony's bass playing is a major part of the sound of the band. He was amazingly right for that band.
His parts are interesting, too.
When Alex is doing weird, unpredictable, odd-time stuff with some wacky feel in some foreign meter.... Mike is right there with him.

There are rumors that Eddie actually recorded the bass parts on the early VH records. I suppose that could be true. The bass playing is THAT good.

Very generic, and the chorus is just plain corny, but overall it's not horrible. Makes me miss Eddie's Brown Sound from the first few albums though.

OK, but for a 21 year old kid, is Wolfgang that bad a choice?

Pete Townshend left more talent in the kids he molested than what's left in Van Halen.

The difference between Wolfgang and Mike on bass is immeasurable.
