here is the link from TMZ
Comedian Patrice O'Neal died Monday night ... after suffering a stroke back in October ... this according to his friends at the "Opie and Anthony" radio show.
O'Neal had been a staple in the comedy world for years -- and performed at the "Comedy Central Roast of Charlie Sheen" back in September.
O'Neal was a regular guest on the "Opie and Anthony" radio show -- and appeared on several TV shows such as "Chappelle Show," "The Office," and "Tough Crowd with Colin Quinn."
Opie just tweeted, "Yes it's true that our pal Patrice O'Neal has passed away. The funniest and best thinker I've ever known PERIOD."
O'Neal was 41.

From Entertainment Weekly:
EW has confirmed that comedian Patrice O’Neal has passed away after a long-term battle with diabetes. The news came today from the official Twitter stream of The Opie & Anthony Show, on which O’Neal was a regular guest. His booking agent Matt Frost released this statement:
It is with terrible sadness we must report that Patrice O’Neal has passed away this morning at 7:00am due to the complications of the stroke he suffered on October 19. Many of us have lost a close and loved friend; all of us have lost a true comic genius. His mother, who was also his best friend, was at his side. Patrice is survived by his wife, Vondecarlo; his step daughter Aymilyon, sister Zinder, and his mother Georgia. The family wishes to thank all of the fans and friends who have expressed an outpouring of love and support for Patrice these past weeks. We ask that you please respect the family’s request for privacy at this difficult time.
Known for his dark, confrontational humor, he was featured on the Comedy Central Roast of Charlie Sheen, Tough Crowd with Colin Quinn, The Office, and Scary Movie 4. O’Neal was hospitalized earlier this year after suffering a stroke.
RIP Patrice. This just sucks....

Patrice was/is a funny guy. In an age of accessibility and a instant access, a virtual record of recent (as well as archived) material, can live on and inspire other comedians for years to come. I am actually happy to see all the positive posts about Patrice that omit the word, 'Brilliant.' He was simply a funny stand-up comedian who was amazingly quick and had a sharp and often 'offesnsive-to-some' sensibility. Yet somehow he managed to always have a cool slant to it all.
His points and explanations on topics of discussion were always so left field to me but made so much sense in a grotesque way.
Patrice was not brilliant and I don't think he would like it if he was referred to as such. I often hear comedians refer to performers, writers and other comedians as, 'Brilliant.' Its such a vain reference and really says a lot LESS about the person who said it rather than the greatness they are trying to express about the person that is referred to as, 'brilliant.' What those self absorbed comedian dip-shits fail to realize is that sometimes its great to hear dick and fart humor rather than the thought provoking unique views on life. Sometimes fans of comedy want to, 'tune-out' and not be forced to listen to the worldly views of a so-called brilliant comedian. and
Get a hold of yourself...this shit is not brilliance. Its just fucking funny and stand up comedians are not brilliant---ever.
You will never be able to change the mind of a comedian though. They are a tight knit group of people who are all clamoring to get the moniker, 'Brilliant' either while alive or earning the title posthumously.
That was the beauty of Patrice though ---- he blended the hilarious material of stuff you thought about, albeit in a different and unique way and added graphic a times and filthy material......Fuck Man, maybe he was Brilliant.
RIP, Patrice----you are missed. the rest of these pussies cant hold a candle to you.

I say he was brilliant, not because of his stand up, but from when hed be on O & A or other talk shows, he would look at things from a point of view that most people never saw, and convincingly state his case for why he saw things that way. He wasnt just a funny guy. He had a way of thinking that was just completely different from most people, and he was completely unapologetic about it, which is a trait I always admire.

Thought he might have ended up like Maysoon Zayid. Which might have been ironic as they ripped on her. But they rip on everyone.
If that had been the case he still would have been more funny and entertaining than most.
And I'm not hearing his 'get some side song' on the show. They should play it if it's not played.
