Great first episode. Looks to be a perfect companion to The Walking Dead.

Great cast and I like the premise so far.

What did you think?

Started out pretty good - a lot going on there.

The Indian kill scene was fucking awesome - arrow through the chicks hand and shoulder, only then she pulls it out and stabs that savage in the neck with it. Damn!

This looks like a worthy successor to Deadwood as a good adult western on TV. Hopefully the creator of this show won't get all fucked up on pain meds and decide to ditch it to do a show about surfers that makes no goddam sense.

i like it but i hate shows that have a premise that you know if completed ends the show

so basically hes running around the states trying to find the men who raped and killed his wife and possibly family

I think we had an instant classic character with The Swede last night.

I wonder if the maps are just regular surveying maps or there is something more to them.

For one thing, these Indians are the least convincing Indians I think I've ever seen. Is there a shortage of Indian actors?

Yeah, shows like that go bad one of two ways: 1. they complete the premise then what they do next isn't as good (see Twin Peaks), or 2. They extend the central premise out so far that it starts to get ridiculous, and you ask "Why haven't you figured this out yet?" (see The X-Files)

Only a few more episodes left. Last night's finished up with a great gun fight. However, I'm still not sure where this show is going to go.

So Bohannan and Elam (Common) are now on the run?

Can they go back to Hell On Wheels?

I guess Bohannan will go after that solider that got away... and if he kills him. Then what? Or if he gets away... he surely wouldn't stay at Hell On Wheels.

It seems more of the story is being focused on Mr. Durant and his railroad troubles.

The show still seems to be trying to find its main story arc.

Well that one guy bohanon needs to get isn't the only one left in that picture

No, I think he is. They showed a montage of him killing everyone in the picture. He, along with the other one that Common killed, were the last two who he tracked to Hell On Wheels.

Why wuld he care bout building railroad?

Think I am an episode behind... still show goes really really slow. Its more like a period piece (almost as bad as a period piece romance where all they go for is winning Best Costumes at the Oscars and don't give two shits about the story or pacing).

I really like the main character, but everyone else is really meh to me. I guess the Swede could be my second favorite... but he hasn't done anything interesting since he first showed up.

This Sunday's opening was horrifically beautiful. I can't think of a slow motion battle scene that has been done so well in recent TV/movie history.

I had wanted to watch this for a while and never got around to it and then the season ended.

Catching up now thanks to the marathon I recorded a few weeks ago.

I'm enjoying it , although there are a few dull spots, but that was to be evident since it's a period piece.

As I watch it I can't help but think it's essentially a retread of Deadwood.

I mean I know it has its own characters and identity but it still feels very Deadwoodish.

That's not gonna turn me off of it because I liked Deadwood but just something I noticed.

I can say that through almost the end of the 1st season I'm disappointed in Common. Thought his character might be a little better.

Yeah that's kinda how I feel.

But I do like the main character so I'll stick with it until the other stuff becomes too boring.

So I'm up to date on this.

I'm really getting tired of the minutes they waste on the Common/prostitute relationship.

Yeah I get it. They are moxed race and really pushing the envelope.

Move on.

I'm glad they've avoided any relationship with Cullen and Lily as I think that would doom the show.

And why is it that in all the old timey cowboy days movies/shows people are wacking down shots of whiskey like it's nothing ?

If people were drinking that much, that often, nothing would've ever gotten done and that railroad would still be incomplete.

how the fuck do people drink like that and be able to accomplish anything

My 1st thought is that it's not strong like what we have today but one of the bottles, which I'm sure they try to make look realistic, said it was 110 proof.

That's actually stronger than most mass produced liquors we have today.

I'd guess that because there was no real regulation of the booze in those days, you might get one bottle that was 40 proof, and the next one be 110.

What a brutal and sad season finale.

I really enjoyed this show, even though it was slow a times. Some of the character developments this season were severe and some others didn't really work. I LOVED that the Swede and the Preacher would hang out together, but then they went and killed off the Preacher. And then the one McGinnius brother could psycho over the Preacher's daughter - and he was the sensible brother - really didn't make much sense.

And the scene with the Swede and Lily.. Wow, where did that come from? Because of the Swede's hate for Bohannan? I guess so.. but that was brutal, and sad.

If they come back for a third season, I hope Durant (and his wife - genius casting of Virgina Madsen) returns. Also, and it could happen, the Swede, who was one of the more disturbing and memorable characters on TV in quite a while. His dancing through the burning town was a great, chilling scene.

Yeah it was a good finale but I didn't like them killing Lily.

I mean I totally uderstand it from a story perspective but I'll miss her.

I was gonna ask if anybody knew if there was a 3rd season planned.

I could see them ending it like this but I'd miss it.

The intro is one of the best in the last few years.

from what I've read there's been no decision from AMC on whether there'll be another season
