Hey Buddaaayyysssss, it's that time of the season, i'm meandering up to the city to celebrate my sweet 16 next month. I normally stay at Herald Square Hotel by the ESB, but they are currently $300 a night which is slightly out of my budget. The city being the city, are there any diamonds in the rough? Discounts? It seems it is much cheaper to stay in Brooklyn, but I don't know that area all that well. Would it be better to just blow the $600 and stay somewhere i am familiar with? Suggestions welcome. It will be me and my current vagina raider. Spanks.:bye:

Awww. I was hoping to illuminate NYC lodging gems for under $300; like one I found for $279. Love the boutiques.

You could always try Jersey City. In the Financial District there are a bunch of reasonable hotels and the PATH train into the city is right there.

What he said. Downtown Jersey City is starting to look like NYC anyway and those Newportians always talk about seceding from the JC.:annoyed:

The Sheraton Lincoln Harbor in Weehawken, NJ. It's in a quieter location, away from the hustle and bustle of Jersey City. It's located right next to a marina with a gorgeous view of the Manahttan skyline. There are some nice restaurants and shops within walking distance. It's across the street from the Lincoln Tunnel so there's bus service right to the Port Authority and the Ferry is literally outside the front door. Once you get to the other side on the ferry there is free bus service to practically anywhere in midtown.

Just had a meeting here and it's in real good shape right now too and a cheap taxi stop to Hoboken too if you craze some excitement for a little less money and surely an easier time too. GREAT restaurants in Hoboken (Augustino's, home of the foul mouthed waitresses and my good buddies Sharon & host Christine) and bars of every kind.

The awesome place to stay in JC is the Hyatt. I'm pretty sure they run some good deals during the weekends and it's a gem. Talk about a view and again right next to the path train into the city for a few bucks.

Also very nice and close with views (which you don't get at all IN the city), is the Westin in JC and the W right in the heart of Hoboken. Had some parties there and man is the view unreal there as well. All these hotel are very new as well, with the one exception being the Sheraton but it's in great shape and probably the best deal. It is in the Weehawken Harbor area so a little off the JC/Hoboken path lined with shopping, food and fun. However there is some good shit around the Sheraton too (Charthouse, Houlihans, and Mortons), but the Hyatt, Westin, W are just in the thick of everything.

Sheraton best deal.
Hyatt best hotel and cool location.
Westin very good hotel and location but a little back (higher rooms will have sweet views).
W Hoboken great hotel and best view in the right rooms or at bar/club.

The W Hotel in hoboken is walking distance to the path train it will take you like 5 mins by path to get to the city. but then again it might be just as expensive as the city.

The Travel Inn on 42nd is usually reasonably priced and really clean.

I stayed in the DaVinci Hotel in Midtown and it was like $125/night. Tiny, but decent. It's usually much more expensive, though.

Brooklyn is fine, just stay in a good place.

The Days Inn in Long Island City has been bed bug free the last few times I stayed there. Its about a one block walk to the No 7 subway line,( 33rd st, just past Queensboro Plaza; About a 10 minute ride to Grand Central )
It costs about 100-110 bucks a night(if you book early) .
If you get there early enough , they have FREE parking(about 10 spots for people, so if you get in late, you'll have to find someplace around on the streets).
Free internet (Thing that drives me crazy about expensive hotels is that they charge you another 15 bucks a day for internet service).
They have a nice little free breakfast .This time they had bagels, cereal, and even fried eggs.
The downsides ? The rooms are small( I'm talking about a foot to a foot and a half on either side of the bed) .But then, you probably wont stay too long in the room anyway

There are a few other hotels in Long Island City, but Days Inn is closest to the subway./But don't stay at the Verve.Stayed near there once, and a lot of broken crack pipes on the streets around it.

So this thread has turned into yet another New Jersey versus Long Island guidette style chick fight over the juicehead NYC gorilla's attention?

skellington, Hoboken is not NY;
it is fucking New Jersey

you miss the best part
of the experience if you don't
stay in Manhattan
get a decent place in the City
and stay one less night if you have to

3 good nights in NYC is better
than 4 awful nights in NJ

I can think of one thing you can get in Hoboken that you can't get in Manhattan:

Never listen to Dude! skellington, it's about what you're looking for. All three options can work, it just depends on what you like. I suggest you cross ref all the suggestions in Trip Advisor and look at the pictures added by guests, not the location. Real world versus set up shots. Go from there and make the call. Any questions just ask.

Good luck and have a blast w your vagina raider.

This. The place is tiny but well worth it.

Eh, I've decided to blow the cash and stay at Herald Square in the historic times building. I've stayed there before, I like it, and I know how to get places from it. It's my birthday. I enjoy walking, so the less I have to use the train/sub/PATH/taxi, the better. The Argentine (BF) has had one not so good experience up there, so avoiding dealing with going in and out of jersey will be better this time around too, so he can enjoy ye' ol' city with me as well. Aside from the obvious, if there are any 'must do, must see' that have popped up in the past 4 years, let me know. Whee!
