She had an awesome life with lots of love, and she was fourteen years old, but she had to be put down yesterday when they discovered a tumor on her heart after failure of ambulatory movement and debilitating respiration.
I grew up with her, and she was a truly amazing dog.
Thanks for listening. RIP Chief.

I'm really sorry man. After going through a similar situation there aren't really words that I can say to make you feel better. You know that you did the right thing and you know that you gave her the best life full of love and easing her pain shows that you showed her the ultimate love.

I'll be saying a prayer for you and your family. Stay strong buddy. It gets better.

Sorry for your loss. I had to put down my dog earlier in the year. We went to a 24-hr emergency clinic. Had her since 97. I couldn't be in the room when they put her down. Right before I had to leave for vacation. Was a bitter-sweet vacation. Especially coming home and the way my dog used to greet us back home. She was my sister's dog but when she moved I took her in.

It's never easy to say goodbye to a dear friend & the love of a good dog is as close to unconditional love as you can get. Sorry for your loss, budday.

Of course the hardest part of owning a dog is the responsibility of knowing when the time has come. While that was extremely hard for you, it was better than letting her suffer.
Take solace in knowing that she loved you as much as you loved her and you gave her the best, most comfortable fun life she could have had.

Best post! I think way too many people prolong and let their dogs suffer for their own selfish reasons rather then whats better for the dog. Nothing pisses me off more then someone who spends thousands of dollars knowing that the dog is still going to suffer and have poor quality of life just so they can put off what would truly be best for the animal! A few more weeks or even months of life isnt worth the suffering that is usually involved!

I've had many dogs.
In recent years I've gone to the pound to see what's been abandon.
My last two dogs from the pound were both apparently pure breds and gorgeous.
One was a white maltese the other a blond cocker spaniel.
It might help to get another.

Things can really suck. I still find myself thinking about Max everyday. Still bums me out.

I just lost my best dog ever to cancer about a month ago. He went from hale and healthy to infirm in less than two months. I gave chemo about a week but the disease had taken deep hold. Very hard to take and very sudden. I'll have other dogs but they will have a tough time measuring up to Mojo. It truly is losing a family member.
