I'm kind of an idiot when it comes to phones. I currently own a very love LG Chocolate Touch :wallbash: and my sister just recently got an iPhone. She asked me if I wanted her old blackberry. I don't mind this, but I'm currently sharing my phone under a family plan with my mother. If I get the blackberry, will I have to change my plan?

Might have to for the data plan..check with your phone carrier. But I don't think you should have to change anything else but I could be wrong.

Are you on Verizon or Sprint? Then you need to make sure the Blackberry is provisioned for the same carrier that you have with your LG Choc.

If this is the case, take the two phones to your local phone store, and ask them to do an ESN swap to the other phone.

If they are both GSM carrier phones (AT&T/T-Mobile), just take the SIM card out of the LG Choc and put it in the Blackberry.

Basically, if both phones are verizon, all you do is ask to swap the phones and then you'll add a data plan for your phone (30/month)

If you are not the primary on your account (i.e. it's your moms account), you'll need her to authorize this.

Since you are not buying a new phone, you are not extending the contract, just adding data.

You'll want to confirm with the guy in the store that you are not extending a contract because the Blackberry you're using is already paid for. If you don't like the BB or want to downgrade back down to a dumbphone, you won't be locked in.

Also: KEEP THE OLD PHONE. Don't give it back to them. It's good to have a backup just in case.
