I agree with author of this article. When I first heard about this I was quick to write it off.
But now it looks like it may be one of these movies I really like... much like the underrated Battle: Los Angeles.

So, Um, ‘Battleship’ Trailer Looks Sorta Awesome (http://www.screenjunkies.com/video/so-um-battleship-trailer-looks-sorta-awesome/)
We were all pretty quick to judge when it was announced that Peter Berg was adapting the board game Battleship for the big screen. Expectations were for an expensive, loud, CGI-heavy, action film where things blow up spectacularly. But in our film snobbery, we forget to factor in that expensive, loud, CGI-heavy action films where things blow up spectacularly can be awesome. Which is the case with Battleship.
Of course, it could be an all-out cheesefest that doesn’t strike the right balance of bullshit to awesome in the same way that Battle: Los Angeles did. But for right now, I’m gleefully optimistic that this movie is going to kick ass in a dumb fun kind of way. Unless, of course, Liam Neeson speaks the line, “They sank my battleship!” In which case, laaaaame.
Not gonna lie, I like the looks of it too:

Not sure why Rihanna is in it though, or what part of the board game Battleship is actually in this movie other than the "ship". Although I think I have seen a newer version of the game on iPhones and iPads with new weapons, but didn't see any weird unidentifiable enemy robot/alien ships.

I think from the clip is that the aliens trap all the ships in some kind of bubble or force field, so they have to fight in a confined area. That is kinda like the board game, but yea, this could have easily been named something else.

Those things the aliens shoot into the side of the ship look like they're supposed to be Battleship pegs.

HA! I thought you had to be joking, but sure enough the incredibly advanced alien race used forced sticky bomb technology it seemed in the trailer just to get in the tie? And yah, battleship technology simply means it's gone. Our fleet today is devoid of actual battleship due to the advent of the aircraft carriers and long range tactical weapons. This has forced bullshit all over it, unless you just like watching big explosions and firework displays.

I'd imagine he's trying to keep busy since his wife died so unexpectedly.

Hate to spoil it for you, but the twist ending is that the humans find out the aliens have been lying about where their ships were and then kick their ass for it.

Man I love these movies! After B:LA, and T: DotM, I was so pumped up! I can't get enough. I saw this trailer and I couldn't wait to see it, so I figured I'd do the next best thing. I put on a Saliva cd and stared into a strobe light for 90 minutes. Awesome!!!!! Those critic snobs are idiots bro.

That looks like Transformers except the bad guys are water transformers and the good guys are.... boats.
But the way they are the same is that both movies look like total garbage.

Isn't Rihanna in this? Does she get naked? Because that's the only way I'd see this movie.

This is the movie to watch if you're tired of faggot shit in movies like a coherent plot, dialog that sounds like what people actually say, and at least somewhat believable characters. Just aliens blowing shit up and some chick in a bikini shaking her titties. What else do you need?
I can't wait until the Candyland movie.
THE DAY THE GUMMI BEARS FOUGHT BACK.

I think I saw Niles Crane in the trailer. I hope it's as good as Down Periscope.
