All of a sudden it went black. It has nothing to do with the screen because I can see the internet and go to my startup menu (though nothing is on it). All my documents are gone.

I have windows protection and it's always running. This happened out of nowhere. I didn't go to any shady sites or download anything. I'm really perplexed.

Sorry, but once it goes black, it never goes back.

In all seriousness, I've never heard of that problem.

Can I assume you've restarted it and the problem persists?

Have you tried putting in the microwave for just 15 seconds on high?! Seriously, I hear this has worked in the past. Just give it a shot.

Sounds like that virus I heard about that is only carried on senior citizen scat porn sites.

The thing that bothers me the most is I had a ton of music on here as well as stuff I've written. And it's just gone.

I guess it's my fault for not backing up the files.

Hard Drives are like the spinal column of computers; vital and prone to complete bowel-voiding failure.

You should have a ton of fancy new updates by next week.

Are you really sure it's gone? This could be an issue with the operating system. You should try removing the hard drive and using a usb enclosure to examine what's still on the drive.

I ran a full system scan and it checked all the files that I can't access. So they are still there, I just can't get to them.

I have a friend who's pretty good when it comes to computers (he runs a network at a doctors office). He might be able to help.

That's a good sign. If your friend is good, then he might be able to help. But... If he tells you to reinstall Windows, make sure you do what I said before you wipe your hard drive. USB enclosures are dirt cheap, and I've saved a lot of files from people's drives that were riddled with viruses.

He's helped me out before with computer stuff. And considering he's running the whole sytem by himself for a doctor who deals with some pretty serious conditions.

But the great news is I can still get on ronfez.net and fulfill my new duties. So, I'm alright.

I fixed a comp for a friend after she let her sister use it for a few months. All I can say is, bestiality porn can't be unseen.

I've run multiple programs to fix it and nothing is working. I have no idea where all my files went because as I said before when I run the virus scan they show up. I'm fucking lost.

It's OK to respect a man who just lets it hang out. Be proud. He possibly poked an eye out with it. Double the respect you have for him.

Nothing is on the desktop. It's just black. The tool bar on the bottom is there, and when I go to the start menu where I normaly have my programs it's empty. I'm able to get online but I have to type in "internet" and search for it.

I had a shit ton of music on here and I can't find it at all. No clue where all my files went. I think it has something to do with my RAM but I just don't know how to fix it.

I still have some music stored in my windows media player and I've been on a Clash kick as of late. So I went in and started listening to the one album I had left and was pleasantly surprised when all my other music started showing up. So, there's that.

It really does sound like all of your files are still on your drive. Take my suggestion, and get a dirt cheap hard drive enclosure. Take your drive out of your computer, put it in the enclosure, and connect it to another computer. If the files are still there, move them to the other comp. Then put your drive back in your comp, and reinstall your operating system.

Im thinking you have a virus that the Spybot, and other are not catching.

It probably changed your extension associations. Which is a bitch to fix. Especially on a single user computer.

There are a few virus removal programs that Microsoft actually makes that will usually get everything, but the association thing will still mess up.

Can you get into windows explorer and see what files you have for sure?

Did they accidentally go into the Recycle bin?

If you click on some files, does it ask you what you want to open them with?
