If you haven't been watching the Women's World Cup you've been missing some great soccer, and you just missed the best Soccer game I've ever seen. The US just won in extra time a man down and despite Brazil being handed two goals on AWFUL calls. They tied it up in the last minute of extra time by a miracle header by Abby Wambach that wouldn't have even happened if 3 minutes of extra time wasn't added because of some punk on Brazil lying on the ground trying to eat up time forcing a stretcher to come out. She proceeded to jump off the stretcher and sprint back to the ref as soon as play started.

There was more and it was amazing. The US women were screwed at every turn and overcame it. Absolutely incredible.

Incredible game and finish. Watching this game I was thinking 2 things. 1, the gamesmanship that goes on is bullshit. The fake injuries, the stalling, the kicking the ball out of bounds to waste time etc... That was pissing me off and I can understand why so many wont give this sport a try. But the 2nd thought was how exciting it was the entire overtime and then the penalty kicks. That was wan amazing game and what a great comeback extra time tie then win.

to be honest, i have no idea about how they do shit for the womens game. When it comes to men, especially English premier league, it depends on the ref, really. Its kinda like fouls in the NBA. Some guys call em tight. Some guys let you bump. It comes down to knowing who the ref is

This game has probably cured me of trying to watch "live events" on dvr.

I only set my dvr to record 2.5 hours, and started watching about an hour after the game started. I was about 30 - 40 minutes behind "live" play at the end.

It recorded into the beginning of extra time, long enough to see Brazil take the lead.

By the time I realized it wasn't going to record it all, I panicked and changed the tuner to ESPN, and hit pause so it would record anything else.

I was on the live channel long enough to see them flipping a coin.

I went back to watch the end of the recorded part, and realized, "Holy crap! If they're flipping a coin right now, somehow the US must have scored an equalizer a player down!"

Yup... one of the best moments in recent sports history, and I completely missed watching it live.

The dvr ended at about the 96th minute, and ESPN was only recording the PK's. It wasn't until after the game when I finally got to see the header that tied it in freaking injury time.

After bammer v. lswho in 2007 (dvr stopped with bama leading, and I missed lsu's last two td's for the win), I thought I'd learned my lesson and ALWAYS add another hour or so onto whatever the dvr suggested recording time was... but I screwed the pooch on this one.

Sucks because there was no reason for it, other than wanting to be able to FF through the boring halftime commentary, etc. It's not like there are commercial breaks in soccer.

I watched all of the 1st half, some of the 2nd half and the extra time/over time whatever you call it. After the U.S. the first goal I changed the channel thinking it was over and when I turned back it was 1-1. After the 2nd U.S. goal I thought it's a lock and changed the channel again. I turn back and it's 2-2. WTF?

During the shootout or Penalty kicks, the commentators made a good point that Japan knew the U.S. tendencies on PK kicks as having scouted them at the other games during the U.S. shootouts and you could see the whiteboard the Japan coach had with him of where some players would likely kick the ball to. Solo was okay but after she let the 2nd on go through and the U.S. could hit a side of a barn I knew we were fucked.

Speaking of which, prior to the kicks, when the Japanese were huddled, the Japan coach looked very at ease and was smiling while talking to his team which I found odd as he was stoic most of the game. It's like they were playing with house money.
