We were talking about finances and the future and such, and she came out of nowhere with "I want an Apple for my next computer." I was floored. In an effort to work through this betrayal, I was looking around on the Apple site. Why do they have to be so smarmy and douchey? It's obvious the product is good, but the culture is so fucking lame and smug. Naming an OS Snow Leopard? Are you kidding?! SO lame.
Now what do I do? Should I leave her? Or do I help her pick out an Apple and just pretend like it never happened?

I know the product is great, but what do you do when talking to other people about computer stuff? Just act like you have Windows so that they don't shun you for being a douchepile like they should?

Get anyone who knows anything about computers to tell her that the price difference between an Apple and a Windows PC is not nearly worth the benefits the casual computer user would gain from purchasing an Apple.
Unless you're stinking rich, then fuck it!

Full disclosure: I own four apple products. An old iPod video, an iPod touch, an iPad, and most recently, an iPhone. I wouldn't call myself a fanboy, but I like them because they do what Steve Jobs promises: they just WORK.
That said, I've used Macs at work and I've hated them. I'm too indoctrined into using a PC to give that up for using a Mac, especially when I've bought 3 PCs for the price of one Mac laptop.

My disclosure is that the only Apple product we've ever owned was when my wife insisted on buying an Ipod. I think it was a first or second generation one, but that thing worked for about 6 months then gave up the ghost. I was also furious at Apple for their (at the time brand new) corporate sponge method of outsourcing peripherals that should be included with the product to aftermarket companies that put out utter shit. In this case, I had just purchased my first .mp3 player, a Neuros, which was half the price of an iPod, 4 times the capacity (80g vs 20g), came with a car charger, and had a built in FM transmitter, a microscopic part that probably cost about 50 cents. With the iPod, of course you had to buy both of those things separately for 50 bucks each. And back then, the transmitter did not charge the device. Between the car charger, the FM transmitter, and the iPod itself, none of that shit worked after 6 months. Of course now all the smart companies have adopted this method, hence the stack of 30 dollar proprietary car chargers that everyone has because every phone has a different "moneymaker" jack.

But it's Roman style lions. A marrie couple enters but only one will walk out. Will it be with an Apple? Stay tuned!
