View Full Version : Insuring your phone?

Little backstory:
My first smart phone, I didn't have a protective case for, but the thing was a tank. I dropped it quite a few times without a lot of damage.
My new phone, I already have it in an otterbox case, etc. etc.
Here's my problem:
I cannot, for the life of me, understand insuring my phone at the cost of 11/month (so over 250 for the life of the contract) for a phone that's coming to the end of it's lifespan anyway. (or at the very least, a phone that is top-tier and will become secondary soon)
The one change in this is Gwen. Gwen is very interested in technology and I can see her dumping phones in toilets and stuff.
I bought it with a credit card so the warranty is doubled... so should I worry about anything?

I would never buy cell phone insurance. Even if they charged you only $5 a month. If lost or broken they still have a deductible which is usually $75 -$125 and they send you refurbished or even used phones. I dont mind refurbished phones I actually like buying refurbished items because you can save a lot of money. That being said if you never use the insurance you throw away money and if you need to replace a phone you will wind up paying right around what the deductible and monthly fees cost you anyway.
I would take my chances.

I got my phone from Best Buy. Instead of my carrier's insurance, I got Bust Buy's. Only cost $30 for two years, and it's better insurance than the carrier's.

It's fucking awesome. I've one or two instances of the Sprint network not being up to par with my old AT&T network in some rural areas, but overall, the service is good. The phone rocks. It doesn't do as much as other higher end Android phones, but it does a hell of a lot more, and is more user friendly than any other phone I've ever had.
