Tastes good and less embarrassing than a colonic.

chicken tikka masala is a good starting point. i've also never met someone who didn't like naan (their bread).

I've read that pretty much everywhere (about naan).
I had never had Thai food until a year ago and I really liked it but I haven't had it since. Not many people I know really like it I guess.

Correct and correct. I learned to cook both while I was stuck in Toronto. It does not make the prettiest food, though :

It helps if you take the picture BEFORE you poop it out.

I second the chicken tikka masala. It's the Indian version of a gateway drug.

Best thing to do when trying Indian food for the first time is to have lunch at any one of their buffets. I don't know a single Indian restaurant in Jersey (I'm sure there are many, I just don't know them) that doesn't have a lunch buffet every day. They put out their staple foods, and since it's for the masses, the spice level is low. Many dishes you can get spicier on request when ordering a la carte. True to buffet form, you can try everything there but don't have to worry about liking it.
Oh, and yes it is quite delicious.

If you like mixing sweet and savory I think you'll like indian food.
Indian food gives me the most horific gas in the world within the same evening, keep that in mind if you decide to go on any dates to Indian places.
