Saw him in 1980 down at the pier in New York opening up for Ian Hunter. He was a large man then and had to do the entire set sitting in a chair. But I had heard he lost a lot of weight recently. I had hoped he was doing better. But diabetes is a mother-fuck.

Get well soon big man. I always loved "Nantucket Sleigh Ride" and "Theme for an Imaginary Western".

The limb would most likely have been gangrenous. Not removing it would be a death sentence. It doesn't stop the diabetes from doing it to other limbs, but it's a "must do" procedure.
