Who will be Rutgers' next coach, but perhaps almost as importantly, how many assistants will stay at the school? Even with a new head coach, those relationships could still pay dividends in recruiting.
If Rutgers decides to go elsewhere to hire a coach, those assistants may be gone. An in-house hiring could ease the transition a bit, but it will be a challenge no matter what.
Time is definitely not on Rutgers' side with national signing day just six days away

i think i actually figured it out, and if its the case, most guys wont leave. They will prob try to get Mario Cristobal, who is currently head coach of FIU and was RUs DC until he took that job 3 years ago. I wouldnt be shocked if he is the first (and last) phone call they make

Recruiting seems to be the only thing he was really good at on the college level, so I am not sure why he would succeed at the professional level.

i think it might help keeping recruits this year too. For one, i dont think he will shake up the staff that much til next off season, so that will help kids stay committed. We'll see, but hopefully they can keep at least a couple of the 4 stars they had committed

I didn't realize that he had coached under Schiano for a while. Should also help that he knows the school.
Is it official yet? I didn't see anything on FIU's site.
I was wondering if there were any FIU commits that had committed to play for HIM, more than play for FIU, that he might be able to bring with him to Piscataway.

Do you know how many Rutgers is looking to add this year?
Rivals shows you're at 17 commits right now, but a pretty solid list.
Did you lose any after Schiano left?
The 4-star WR out of Don Bosco seems solid.

according to the guy the had made interim coach while searching, they havent lost a single one. I think they were looking to bring in like 20-22 kids but they also have a couple transfers eligible this year now. i think its going to be business and usual with cristobal coming in. he will run the d with a very similar system to schiano and he will let the OC run the offense like schiano finally did this year.
Im actually relatively excited to see where they can go from here. Especially if they keep these kids they have committed and grab 1 or 2 of the guys who havent yet. they hve 3 or 4 pretty solid OL guys comin too, which was one of the bigger weaknesses they had

FIU doesn't have much worth stealing at first glance... but you never know if Cristobal might have found a "diamond in the rough" like he's been doing, someone that was overlooked by the other BCS schools and recruiting ranking gurus.
Rumor is, if he does leave, FIU may raid FSU's staff for a replacement HC. (Mark Stoops was already mentioned, and could take some position coaches with him)
AU is going head-to-head with FSU on a couple of kids... this could be HUGE for us if their staff suddenly looked unstable right before signing day.

I kind of doubt Stoops leaves for a Sun Belt school. You might have more insight, but I thought he already said thanks but no thanks to earning twice the money taking the DC job at Auburn. As it stands now he is on the fast track to getting a HC job at a school in a bigger conference and he chose to stay at FSU in part because he felt like the talent he had on defense there gave him to the best opportunity to stay on that track.

He already brought FSU from utter crap, to a top-10 defense. Not much more to prove there.
I thought the same thing about Gus Malzahn. He reportedly turned down the Vandy job (at $3 mil per year) last year, and was making over $1 mil at Auburn. Then, out of nowhere, he takes the HC job at Arkansas State (also Sun Belt)... for LESS money ($800k)... so, you never know just what motivates some of these guys.
I agree with snoogans. I think the FIU job would be pretty attractive. Most BCS schools are looking for someone with head coaching experience, so they tend to raid Sun Belt and MAC schools whenever there's an opening. This would just pad Stoops' resume.

It was confirmed that two previous commits, ATH Davon Jacobs of DePaul and LB Steve Longa of Saddle Brook, had decided to stick with their decision to play for Rutgers, but TE Michael Giacone of St. Peter's Prep had switched to Boston College.
One player remains undecided. Timber Creek LB Quanzell Lambert continues to consider Iowa and Nebraska in addition to Rutgers and his coach, Rob Hinson, re-confirmed that the No. 4 recruit in the state in the Ledger 50 would not be signing a national letter of intent on Wednesday, national signing day.

5-Star, #2 ranked DE in the country out of Don Bosco Prep.

Nice one there.
AU is sitting at 20 right now too. Rivals has this class at #11 right now. Still a few targets that haven't announced yet.
Other sites have Avery Young as a 5-star. Still stings about missing out on our local 5-Star RB they bought... errr... convinced to flip to bama.
Bad thing is, we really needed a FULL class to get back to full strength. With the new "Saban" rules, I don't think we can play catch-up next year.
And, yeah, call me a bama hater all you want, but fucking Saban is a snake.
Another local kid had been committed for them for MONTHS. All of a sudden, today, he announces before his high school that he's going to bama... wait, what's that? Oh shit. NOW there's no room for him.
Kid was fucking humiliated in front of his family and the whole school.
He doesn't know what the hell he's going to do now. He had PLENTY of other offers from SEC and BCS schools (AU included), but classes are filling up FAST today, and he could have to drop down and attend a D-1AA school just to find a spot.
LOOoooong history of doing shit like this. Just like the kid they're going to PAY to sit out this year. They screw kids over routinely just to make room for the next 5-star stud. It's just bama being bama.

Alabama commitment Darius Philon does not sign, future uncertain
Mike Herndon, Press-Register 02/01/2012 12:31 PM PRICHARD, Alabama
He arrived late and left early, and Darius Philon still has not signed a college scholarship.
Philon, a defensive lineman who has been committed to Alabama since September. told the audience at Vigor High School's national signing day ceremony on Monday that he was "undecided between Alabama and Arkansas," but then stood at donned an Alabama cap as the room erupted.
But Philon, who didn't take the stage with 12 Vigor teammates until after the ceremony had begun, left abruptly before it ended and did not speak with the media. Vigor coach Kerry Stevenson later confirmed that Philon has not signed scholarship papers with any school and wasn't sure what Philon planned to do.
"It might be over with by the end of the day; it might take him until June," Stevenson said of Philon, who had originally committed to Auburn before switching to Alabama in September.
"He's a good football player. Somebody will take him."
Two teammates, Marlon Moore and Paul Kyles, said that Philon had been asked by Alabama to grayshirt and was undecided about what to do.
Stevenson would not confirm that Alabama had asked Philon to grayshirt, but did allude to a numbers crunch in Tuscaloosa under the SEC's new 25-signee limit.
"The SEC limited the number of folks they can sign, so they got put in a bind," Stevenson said of the Crimson Tide. "Everybody knew it. Everybody was just trying to wait and see where it was going? to spill out. I think the guys that can stay and use their time a little bit more was the direction they decided to go. The guys that got hurt that need more time to rehab."
Stevenson said Philon, who took no other visits after committing in September, feels like "he had the world snatched from up under him," and he was unsure what Philon might do.
"My kid committed to the University of Alabama and hasn't talked to anybody since then," Stevenson said of Philon, who was No. 119 on the Press-Register's Super Southeast 120. "I'm pretty sure he's wondering, 'Why me?' On a number of occasions, they stated how much they don't want to lose him.

You do have a stud FB transferring in from Illinois - Jay Prosch. Originally from Alabama, his mother is very sick and he's essentially without a position at Illinois because the new coach is bringing a pure spread offense. I think Pro Football Weekly had him as first team All-American at FB.

Bottom line... the kid was committed to Auburn. Bama didn't want him going there, so they offered, he accepted, even though they really didn't have room for him.
And Saban is notorious for pounding these kids that once they commit, they should NOT visit any other school. "A commit is a commit", he preaches.
This kid followed his rule, and ended up getting fucked. In the end, THEY didn't honor their committment to him. He took no other visits, and doesn't have many options at this point.
It's no different than what the "Bahr" did for decades, especially before there were any limits on scholarships.
They'd lie to, and screw over any kid they didn't want to play against. They'd tell kids thinking about AU that they'd have a chance to start for the tide, and they'd waste their futures on this false hope. There's a laundry list of kids that have been "processed" out under saban. Most are either out of football now, or transferred out to D-1AA or DII schools.
U. of N. Alabama and South Alabama have been loading up on tide rejects the last few years.

yea a big part is that schiano didnt really do alot of recruiting, the other dudes did most of the leg work and pretty much every single one of them kept their job. I think that was the main reason they kept it together. Based on what they did last year, and who was already coming back, plus this class (the OL in this class are the biggest thing. that was the only major weakness) i think things will be bright at RU as long as this guy isnt a complete moron as a coach

The guys on espnu were talking about the "pipeline" from some Florida HS's to RU.
I know Schiano did well down there, but all I see in this year's class is a 2-star kicker.
But props to the staff for keeping the NJ/PA talent at "home", especially on Hamilton. That kid could have went almost anywhere he wanted.

Ill give schiano credit for opening florida, but still, he wouldnt do alot of the actual phone calls and shit himself. So the Mountain West Conference and Conference USA are set to merge, which will result in a conference with at least 16 and as many as 24 members, with teams spanning five time zones, from East Carolina in Greenville, NC to the University of Hawaii in Honolulu (a trip of 5,753 miles, according to Google Maps. (http://maps.google.com/maps?q=east+carolina+university&um=1&ie=UTF-8&hl=en&sa=N&tab=wl))
More at this link, but I don't see how two crap conferences joining together to become one huge shitty conference really helps anything.
