Does anyone have an idea of when Ron will be done with this Grand Jury thing? I have a 3000 mile road trip coming up in a few weeks, and was hoping to have live shows for the drive.

no one knows, not Ron or the court system. Doing your civil duty is a thankless task.:smoke:

It's either 4 or 5 weeks and I believe this is week 2.

It is week two but if he is selected for a trial there is no telling how long a trial may last.

Grand jury doesn't lead to a juror being on a case. You just decide what cases are strong enough to go to trial.

It's not. I was on one in Queens last month and you get so many cases thrown at you and they never present the entire case at once and then allow you to vote. You get one witness today, one tomorrow, one next week with other cases in between. It was difficult at times to remember details of every case.

Thanks Sailor, I didn't know that, guess if I watched Law and Order I would have known.

4 weeks at 5 days a week equals 20 days. $40x20=$800!?

Holy crap. I think Ron should be paying for Fez's open bar night outs because he is rollin' in some fat BANK.

If I had $800 dollars, I'd be rich.

He's got two weeks left. Ron said the other day he's half-way through with that shit.

I'm sure this has been asked and answered somewhere....but is the sole reason Ron is doing it due to possible conviction? Don't get me wrong; I know Ron's conscientious, but many people get out of it, and celebrities almost always do. Given Ron's interesting past, I can't help but think some previous adventures are being used to pressure him to comply.

Nah, people still ignore it in NYC, and warrants aren't issued for them.

If they have priors, though....that may be a different story.

Not grand jury. If you're chosen the only thing you can do is elect to defer it for two or six months. The only way out of grand jury is if you can prove that you are the caretaker for someone who can not do without you for four weeks.

Admittedly, I know no one personally called up to be on a grand jury. Although, I assumed whether you were picked for a regular proceeding or a grand jury was one that occurred after you responded to a standard notice.

If that's not the case, then on what criteria are people chosen for a grand jury over standard jury duty? I had imagined that responding to standard notices, and attending, put you on some "reliable" list for grand jury duty.

Well, that would explain the quality of the show for the past 2 years.

We asked our court officer and she said that there's not a special list for grand jury. It's a random drawing. Of the 213 people on my grand jury only six of us had ever served on a standard jury (which is easier to get out of).

I'm just saying there are no linger exemptions based on profession. That always used to be the case, but they got rid of it a while back.

Yeah, I remember one of the owners of the Giants got called right before the draft and he tried to get out of it citing the lockout and the draft and the judge didn't care.

My father got summoned for grand jury duty about 15 years ago. He was rolling in cash during that time.

I got snagged for regular jury duty for a week. I was called into a trial where the lawyer was a guy I took criminology classes with in college. Got me away from my obligation by lunch the first day. I was on call for the remainder of the week. Ended up making a fast 50 dollars that week. ROLLIN'!

I've been summoned for jury duty 5 times, got put on the jury each time, got elected foreperson every time. All civil cases and we gave the plaintiffs nothing nearly every time. These trial lawyers should know me by now but they keep allowing me on every time. I know bullshit when I see it.

Last year was my first call to Grand Jury and damn if the judge didn't appoint me foreperson. Fairly small county so we only had 30 cases. Mostly heathen domestic violence and only one murder/accident. We no-billed 5 cases and sent the rest on for later trials. Took two days.
