Before the days of the internet ans spoilers These were big in the 80's I always got PWI and Inside Wrestling. Inside Wrestling always had a section called Roll Call of Champions which showed the champs of other federations as well as the old NWA regions. Back then people held on to titles longer so it was fairly accurate. I remember seeing Jeff Jarretts name always holding titles in Mid Southern. Lawler was also on that list constantly

Yeah it was the only way to read about shit outside your "Territory "
Loved those old mags they also kept Kayfabe pretty well.

The only thing I disliked about the Apter mags is how their Kayfabe never really connected with the storylines of the regions like they could've. Sometimes they would focus on something that happened during a house show of a WWF or WCW show that could've been really interesting if they bled their way onto TV. The most notable of these examples would be Dino Bravo bearhugging Hulk Hogan unconscious and being disqualified during a non-title match for refusing to relinquish the hold during a house show in Arizona. Granted, this was the typical Hulkster schtick (the monster heel sends Hogan to the hospital, Hogan regains his heat in the subsequent grudge matches) but I kind of liked the idea of a non-giant, non-fatso feuding with Hogan, at the time.

I remember an article when Lawler came to WWF in the early 90s explaining why he was a face in the southern territory while at the same time being heel in WWF.
He claimed WWF used trick editing to make him look bad. It all lead to McMahon vs Lawler in Memphis which was an awesome angle (you can still see it on YouTube ) and showed early signs of the MrMcMahon character.
You don't see imagination and creativity on that level anymore.

back when the Mid-Southern (Memphis) territory merged with World Class to form the USWA, Lawler would be the heel in Texas and a face in Memphis.

A worker the likes of which has been rarely seen.
I also used to love when people in the mags were called by there original names, not the WWF names. Like the road warriors were almost never referred to as LOD in print
