It's epic, dark, and very NSFW. I'm in.

I know nothing of the books or series, but this is a big gamble for HBO, and they've spent 50 million on the series. Looks great.

To me, the good thing about this being on HBO isn't even that all the nudity and graphic violence gets preserved. It's that there's no pressure to make these "nice" or play by the rules. Because the books -- and I've read all 4 and have #5 on pre-order -- are brutal. It's definitely kill or be killed, and good guys don't survive just because they're virtuous. Martin kills major characters with no warning, often in the middle of a book.

But there's great character development too. I won't spoil a thing, but I will say that one character you'll meet will, early on, seem like the most evil son of a bitch ever, but by the end of the 4th book, he's legitimately turned into a hero, or at least not so evil.

In preparation for this show I got the four books and I'm about halfway through the first book. I figured I'd take the approach that I did with Pillars of the Earth and read just ahead of where the show is.

I loved the setting and scenery in HD. It really made my new TV shine. I don't know how I feel about those warlocks, I was thinking this was going to be a little more straight up. I am definitely in though. I got high hopes after the first episode that is for sure.

yea they went on the trip with the King so he could ask Ned to be his right hand dude. The Queen went, i believe, to get her son and Neds daughter together....although i'm guessing its just an easy way in the books as well as the show to introduce everyone at once....If the queen and the rest of the family stayed behind, you'd have to do a whole other episode of introductions to those characters.

He was one of the men that Ned's wife used to capture the Imp. He also helped fight off the attackers they came across on the road two episodes ago. The Imp had said to him at one point "I like you."

If the show is following the structure of the books, and it sounds like it is, then the deaths of very major characters will not be saved for season finales or "very special episodes" -- they will come suddenly, with very little warning. If this one bothers people, wait for some of the others.

I finished the first book just before I watched the latest episode and I'm happy that they did it. I suppose if I hadn't read the book I'd be pissed that they had killed off a main character like that, but now I'm beyond happy that they're not going to go with the overly done formula of "this is the main character, he cannot die," just because it's what the idiot television audience want. As long as the show continues to stick closely to the books, I'll be happy with the show.

Great ending... the turn of character development came to a head in this one. With war on the horizon and the promise to get a look beyond the wall, they've definatley did a great job in hooking me into wanting season 2. I was just a little suprised that the new boy King's mother is allowing him to be such a dick, without any influence, but I guess she has her plans, as she always seems to be plotting.

Great ending... the turn of character development came to a head in this one. With war on the horizon and the promise to get a look beyond the wall, they've definatley did a great job in hooking me into wanting season 2. I was just a little suprised that the new boy King's mother is allowing him to be such a dick, without any influence, but I guess she has her plans, as she always seems to be plotting.

Have you seen it recently? With the exception of the T-Rex, and that looked good because the scene took place at night while raining, the other stuff really doesn't hold up. The brontosaurus that we first see just looks like a cartoon. Then again most visual effect creatures do. Can't think of one off hand that really came off as looking real.

He's been taken by the charisma of The Red Woman Melisandre, a sorcerer priestess in a new heretical religion, and she promised him if he follows her she'll help him win the throne. The guy who died was an old maester who opposes this new religion. He tried to poison her, but her magic protected her. I won't get into the flaming sword cause based on how little they talked about it I'm thinking that will be explained in later episodes.
