Anyone else a fan of the Apes movies?


I bought the box set last year of all the movies and it was a good time watching them.

The first one, even with Heston's ham-handed performance, is the best of course. I liked some parts of Beneath, but the whole singing to the bomb scene - and it's way too long - really kills it for me. Escape wasn't very good - or plausible given the timeline in the first two movies - so it's really forced.

But I do like Conquest - especially at the end when Cesar is giving that speech while the city burns. It's pretty bad ass.. and going by the timeline, this new movie will take place when Conquest did... when the Apes begin to live on their own (and fight the humans).

I guess this new movie is strictly a prequel for the first, and then the other sequels are out, as in the original movie, the apes become smart because Caesar if the offspring of evolved apes Cornelius and Zira who came back through time.

Then again, I don't know if was ever established how they came to be. I think the first one showed that man killed most of themselves off, apes & monkeys survived, and millions of years later apes evolved to talk and build civilization.

i'm looking forward to the new movie. i've only seen bits and pieces of several of the previous films. i need to go back and check them all out again.

and for fans of the franchise, boom! studios is launching a new planet of the apes comic at the end of this month. it's described as being set 1,200 years before the original 5 films when humans and apes lived in harmony but with growing seeds of dissent. i for one, will be checking it out. here's the cover for the first issue:

I loved it too. But, even as a kid I asked myself how the fucking guy is on a planet of apes for the entire movie and never once questions the fact that they speak perfect English.

It's been a while since I heard the commentary track but, as I recall, in the book and early drafts of the script the apes spoke a different language and the Taylor character learned it and how to communicate with the apes. But hey, it's show business baby, and that would have been a very tedious movie.

It was OK - CGI was pretty good but the ending seemed rushed. WHat now?

I loved it! It was excecuted way better than I had thought it would - and even gave a nice tie in to the original movie for continuity of the series. This totally was beyond my expectations, and by the look of things, many people felt the same way.

Of course now that it's a hit, they'll make a sequel and screw it up, but this is a fantasic film.

I'm trying really hard to think of other movies movies I watched lately. The only ones I'm remembering are other Rifftrax treatments (as was this one). I saw Captain America and one of the Harry Potters. The Harry Potter is just a blur. I've seen a couple others, and I can't tell you where one ends and another begins. Captain America was bad, I was more bored than anything, while this movie was a complex symphony of ass.
