Has anyone experienced the costs to have a pool table set up? I just inherited a slate top table and a buddy of mine wants $450 to set up and re-felt. I just dont know if this is a good deal. BTW... he is the only one around here that sets these up - I feel I'm getting gouged....

What size table is it?
Depending on the quality of the felt he is using and is he going to do the rails or just the table.
I did my 4x8 and the felt was around $150.00 and it was easy just take your time, make sure where ever you set it up you have enough room it sucks to have to jack up on the stick or use a short stick.

Yeah its 4x8 - hopefully only the table needs felt. The room is actually too small (16 x 12) when you have a shot on the rail you dont have enough room. Gonna cut down a stick or two for those close ones.

I was thinking in my mind an install would be like $200 but after he looked it over he said like $400 - 450 and that included the felt.

You have a local bar with a pool table? Ask the bartender or owner how much it cost him.

If he is going to haul the fucker into the the room for you than the price is right. If all the parts are there waiting for setup, it might be a little steep,(for a friendly rate) but not outrageous.

I have setup a pool table a few times and it is not difficult, just time consuming to get it right. You are right about the rails though. They are a bitch to redo.

I agree with Rhino those fuckers are heavy. Ive got one in my house and it was a bitch to set up. Plus with the felting and all, it may be a little pricey but I wouldnt call it gouging.

Thanks - you have satisfied my curiosity. I'm gonna get him to price the setup if I have the legs back on the frame and the slate in place.

I'm going through the opposite, as I have a pool table and have been looking for someone to take mine down and move it into storage.

the place I'm using charges $325 to just setup. $350 to take down and setup for move.

The table is up, the PBR's are cold and cigars are optional. Boys, we have a pool table now.

Problem is, I have to get a shorty stick for when the ball is near the rail. A few feet short of being perfect....
