JACKSON, Ga. — An enormous tree limb that crashed through a Georgia family's bedroom killed a father and the young son he was holding in his arms Tuesday as a fast-moving storm system pounded the South with tornadoes, hail and spectacular lightning.

Paramedics found the 4-year-old boy, Alix Bonhomme III, wrapped in the arms of his father, Alix Bonhomme Jr., in a sight so wrenching that even grizzled rescuers wept. Bonhomme's fiancee, Marcie Moorer, and the couple's younger son were cowering in another room during the storm and escaped injury.

Stories like these make me think about the existance of God. The father was holding his son protecting him from the storm. So sad :glurps:

Take a walk in a pediatric hospital. That'll pretty much shore up your thoughts on God.

I thought this was about YOUR dad and son.

I'm glad it's not!

How so?

I'm still looking for an explanation why a benevolent God would put kids through cancer, etc.

See, if they get better - it's a miracle of God - but if they don't... well....

"It's all part of God's plan" or "God works in mysterious ways..." God wants to put kids through chemo? That's pretty messed up.

Ahh, yes, the benevolent God bit. I guess as an Old Testament guy I sometimes forget that when people say God they can also be referring to the bowdlerized Christian vision of Him.

OT God killed a whole tribe of Jews for eating the fat of an animal, he wiped out humanity save for one family because he felt the people weren't abiding him, he asked Moses to kill 3000 Israelites at Mt. Sinai, before he laid down the commandments!

I hear your point - I just needed reminding that not everyone thinks God is a warlord. God kills children if he feels like it and you don't get to question it. To question God in the OT is to be against God.

I want to add to this that God killed 42 children who mocked Elisha, who was sobbing over Elijah's death, by releasing 2 Bears on them.

OT God doesn't play.

You don't need an excuse not to believe in God. You don't need to justify it on some emotion level. Logic and reason are fine.

I actually believe in some kind of God (Universe or supreme being/entity) but I really would llike to know the rules of how and why. Just saying
