Holy fuck! I'm 40 minutes into this thing and I'm about ready to throw in the towel. Among other complaints about things that don't make any sense - I can't remember watching anything with as many commercial interuptions ever. And, every commercial break teases what's coming up after the break, thereby ruining any suspense of what's going to happen. WTF!?

FUCK. I was looking forward to this.
This does not bode well.
I'll find time to watch it this week, but now I'm thinking it can't possibly live up to expectations.

I don't understand TNT's reasoning. For example, SPOILER COMING the humans are planning a raid on a food warehouse and are worried about whether its an ambush or not. They build up the suspense right into the commercial. Then they run a promo about what's coming up after the commercial and we see Noah Wiley and his group safe and back at camp after the raid and he says his son is alive which was the big dramatic revelation that came out of the raid and they just gave it away in a promo going into the commercial.
I've stopped watching. I'm going to DVR it and fast forward all the commercials which there is literally a commercial break every 10 minutes. Its unbvelievable.

When I first watched the trailer back in March I really wanted to watch this. But as the months have passed and I have picked up some other shows I was thinking about skipping. Now after your posts I think I will definitely skip it! Thanks!

Part one was definitely better than part two for me. I had a major issue in the second part that twice during that episode an Alien Mech showed up, the show cut to commercial, and then when it returned from the break.....no more Alien Mech. they just got away. The first one they had to blow up with C4.....but those other two? oh we just ran from those. That bothered me. Also, when the second Mech showed up, crashing through the ceiling, not only did they get away from it, but the bandits that captured them were able to maintain order in the chaos and keep them captured.....I don't know about you, but I think a giant alien robot crashing through the ceiling would be a perfect distraction for me to get away, or at least get my gun back and shoot someone.
Other than that, I liked the show and I'll be watching until this goes down the same road as shows I had to give up on....like The Event and Flashforward.

I liked part two better, as that rogue criminal group were the most interesting characters of the show so far. The leader and that bad-ass chick (how great was her killing those two guys) are what I was looking for in a cast of post-apocalyptic survivors. Noah Wyle and his crew I found too sappy.
Oh look, they're skateboarding! Yuck.
Moon Bloodgood is hot so any scene with her is good - but for 10pm on a Sunday, which is where this will be airing, I expect a little more grit and a lot less sentimental crap.
I also hated the prologue introduction of the aliens - kid drawings? - oh what "lost innocence boo-hoo" crap. I would have liked a more clear explanation as to when and how they arrived. I'm sure we'll get it later on in the series, but they should have tried to hook you in right away to what the alien agenda might be.
It's at a good time period on Sundays, so I'll keep at it for a bit, but I just wasn't overall impressed with the pilot.

The kid's drawings were one part I liked. It gave a quick synopsis of the invasion, which isn't the story. Better than spreading that out to get to where they are now, which IS the story.

I get what they were trying to do - I could just barely understand the little mumbling kid. And he couldn't draw for shit!!
I thought it could have a better synopsis of the backstory before we're dropped into present day. A good example of this is the movie Reign Of Fire. Everything you needed to know over a cool montage of photos and backstory.

I think why they don't continue to chase them down has yet to be explained. Unless they're simplistically programmed to just stay in one place and shoot whatever moves.
I did like the "why do they have two legs instead of six" question.

yea, that could be true. one simple line of dialogue could have helped me feel better about it. just a simple, "oh thank god that robot was on guard duty and not roaming....we'd have never made it out". It seems lazy that they wouldn't do that.
Oh and the two leg vs. six leg question was a good one. I think its because they're putting kids in the machines.

it would explain the harnessing too......Usually, any Sci-fi alien technology worth its salt has some sort of assimilation aspect to the mechanics. The harnesses on the kids could be the conduit between the mech robot alien tech and the human controlling it. The harnessed kids not in mech robots have probably not been harnessed long enough to assimilate with a mech.

robots in sci-fi generally annoy me by how bad they are at their jobs. they normally don't have any sort of thermal imaging, audio analysis capabilities, or any other 'advanced' features that would make them perform better, so the good-guys can basically hide inside a cardboard box and the robots can't detect them. not to mention that they're generally lousy shots.
i guess it's part of the suspend disbelief thing, but it always peeves me.

Well the season finale was last night and we won't see any new episodes until next summer.
Overall? An OK series, with some good episodes and a few good characters too, mostly Margaret, the bad ass tattooed blond chick, and Pope, the bad ass chef. I liked Moon Bloodgood's character too - especially the episode where she killed the skitter. We finally saw some life in her.
The rest are all kinda blah though and the whole "I gotta get my kid back" plot line really dragged on. And once he came back, Ben, just turned out to be super annoying. I can't even tell you his other kid's names because they're so boring too.
The finale scene was a little rushed too I thought. So we see the leading aliens - or whoever they were - and they said they didn't expect this much resistance. I don't know what resistance they were talking about but if anything the show lacked resistance. They even had a whole episode where we saw humans helping them out by giving over kids. Not much resistance there.
Maybe when I comes back the story will kick into high gear, but overall I felt it just dragged along with a few moments of greatness in between.

I agree about how annoying that kid was. It's great that the aliens made him super strong and all that, but that's no reason to talk that fast. Actually, all of the kids were annoying, the only one that wasn't was the creepy green harnessed girl.
And the ending with the ship just seemed out of place, they have the feel-good moment where the shoot down the other ship and then it just cuts to them driving happily along afterward. It felt to me like they shot the triumphant ending in case they got canceled and then the ship thing at the end in case they got picked up so they'd have something going into next season.

Yea, this show has issues. Things keep getting flopped around....."i'm not going to stand watch, you're not fit to lead.....ok I'll stand watch....i can't stand watch so hot chick is gonna go with my son....no wait my son is going with Capt. Weaver....I'm staying behind....no wait, they need help, i'm going" The story shifts so drastically over minor details. They bring up this whole thing of Capt Weaver is on pills and they confront him and he's all, "well i stopped takin em" and that's it. They CONSTANTLY introduce plot lines that just disappear because something else happens. That new Lieutenant guy was never seen in the episode again after he got tricked by Jimmy and our hero. They use commercial breaks to simply avoid hashing out story lines with good writing, and that's really frustrating.
The thing with the radio frequency was confusing too. Ben had to stay at the school so they could pin point the radio frequency, cause he's the only one that can hear it and it keeps changing......so that works and drive's off the mechs, but then they attach the radio to a car so Tom could drive into town and help out Weaver's squad, but he just keeps it in the car and it works out and keeps them away without Ben being there. Then he shoots a flying ship with a fucking RPG....I thought we were going to see a chain reaction explosion there since ya know....its the season finale....but we just got a few fireworks. Than he hops on board one of their ships to go back with them i guess cause they asked nice.
I like the show and I enjoy the story, but there are some serious issues here with plot development and continuity. finally, I absolutely hate the kid that thinks he belongs with the skidders and I despise the chick that helps the doctor. we'll see what happens next season though.

Maybe they meant resistance in terms of counter-insurgency once the armies were wiped out thru superior technology. They may not have had other races develop mech piercing rounds, jamming their frequencies, safely removing harnesses and the like.

yea, I was teetering early on, than the middle of the season had a few pretty concise episodes with some good action.....than this season finale re-introduced all those issues I had previously and was pretty sloppy.

True, as we don't know what exactly is resistance to these advanced beings, but we never got a glimpse as to what could be taken as a real pain in their alien asses. I don't know how the frequency thing worked. I guess that is a hinderance, but only a minor one to beings flying around in spaceships I'd imagine.
And I'm glad they're leaving that damn school. I'd rather see the humans surviving on the run than hanging out at JFK High.

And it did!
I wasn't psyched to watch the return of this show, but from what they showed last night, the time off did this show some good.
Action packed and fast paced, the story really moved along. The best improvement was Ben's kids. Maybe they took acting lessons over the break, but their characters were tolerable and contributed to the story. Of course, this was the return and they had to put some big bucks into it, but it paid off. The potential is there to have a much better second season.
