The article breaks it down to this:
01. The Doors - "The Cars Hiss By My Window" (LA Woman)
02. Neil Young - "For the Turnstiles" (On the Beach)
03. Led Zeppelin - "Hats Off to Roy Harper" (III)
04. The Beatles - "Blue Jay Way" (Magical Mystery Tour)
05. Creedence Clearwater Revival - "Cotton Fields" (Willy and The Poor Boys)
06. Pink Floyd - "Fearless" (Meddle)
07. Queen - "The Prophet's Song" (A Night at the Opera)
08. The Rolling Stones - "Prodigal Son" (Beggar's Banquet)
09. Velvet Underground - "Jesus" (The Velvet Underground)
10. The Who - "Rael 1" (The Who Sell Out)
11. Bob Dylan - "Oxford Town" (The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan)
12. Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young - "4 + 20" (Déjà Vu)
I think we can add to this, what do you think are the hidden gems from the big hit bands?
I have to add Genesis "Supper's Ready"

This is a good concept for a list, but the article speaking of "overrated" bands, and slapping a pic of Radiohead on there when they aren't even in the list, makes it sound like trolling.
But it's still a cool idea, and I'll put the band pictured in our list:
Radiohead, "Myxomatosis"

the artists wouldn't be considered overrated but these songs I would say are underrated as far as I'm concerned..
Lynyrd Skynyrd - Gimme The Steps..
Harry Chapin - Taxi
Patsy Cline - Crazy

Yeah, I agree. Also I think Born to Run is an underrated Springsteen song and Heartbreak Hotel is an Elvis hidden gem.

I don't particularly agree with it, but generally the argument is that they were all pretty terrible people, they stopped playing live and they "ripped people off." Personally while I don't think they're over-rated I just can't listen to them anymore, I'm beyond sick of 90% of the songs they put out.

in all seriousness, even tho i dont own any of their music or listen to them when i can help it,arent the beatles considered the greatest rock band of all time?by like everybody?i didn't think there was any argument over #1,just over the rest of the rankings

You could argue semantics...that the Beatles weren't really a rock band. They're generally listed as the greatest band of the "rock era", while the Stones, Who, Kinks, or even Zep get the "rock band" title.
I'm still confused by that earlier post, though. The Beatles always acknowledged their influences, and their songs weren't rewrites of old blues and Chuck Berry songs (not that there's anything wrong with that). I don't know who they stole from. IN fact, their manager, Brian Epstein, was so inept they lost tens of millions that should have gone to them.
Yes, it's true they quit playing live, and it's simply because they were about 3 years ahead of what could be created in a live setting.
Were they good people? All four had their moments, and that's certainly true of anybody who becomes huge stars.

Yes...which is why it's pretty easy to say they're overrated.
Overrated doesn't have to be a shitty band who's rated higher than they should be, it's can also be a really good band that's rated THE BEST ACROSS ALL TIME AND SPACE.

Only if "the rating" is the same as your rating.
I acknowledge that the Beatles are the general wisdom #1 rated, but when it comes to my personal criteria, they're no where near #1.

What most people fail to do is remove their personal tastes from the analysis. The Replacements are my favorite band of all time, but I'd never say thy're THE greatest band. Even if you don't enjoy the Beatles, you have to appreciate the cultural impact. They brought on so much change that affects all genres of pop and rock music these days.

A similar criteria can be stated for underrated song..
Imho, although Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Freebird" is a great song it does get it's due, "Gimme Three Steps" imo does not..I would also say that the same goes Harry Chapin's Taxi as compared with "Cats in the Cradle" and pasty cline's "Crazy" versus "Walking after Midnight"..
I think the question I chose to answer was more like...
"In your opinion, name an underrated song by an artist you like?"..

Well, the fact that it's one of maybe 3 Skynyrd songs I can ever recall hearing it would almost have to be excluded from the underrated category. It may not get as much airplay as "Freebird" but it's pretty damned close.

I'd say it falls between 3-5. Obviously you got your Freebird and SHA as 1 and 2. Then it's Simple Man, Tuesday's Gone and Gimme Three Steps. But the Skynyrd example is the the best case he could make.
If you say name a Patsy Cline song, 9/10 are going to say Crazy. And id you say name two Harry Chapin songs, 9/10 are going to say Cats in the Cradle and Taxi.

I was saying that I didn't think people in general appreciated the songs as much as they did other songs by the same artist..My bad if I didn't understand the question...

The Replacements are pretty great. I'll give you 3 songs that show this. Left of the Dial, Bastards of Young, and Here Comes a Regular.
And I don't consider Pink Floyd to be overrated, but the song they picked is a great song.
