Although they were great showmen back in the early days, I never cared for them and always thought their music was mediocre. Think about it: as musicians, were they better than "Zeppelin"? Deep Purple? Rush? Van Halen? Aerosmith?
Black Sabbath? I think not.
They were all glitter and not enough substance. Remember, we are talking "Old School" here, back in their so called "glory days". Anybody agree? Sorry Eddie Trunk! LOL

I never cared for them much either... The lead singer strutted a bit much but did not have the voice to back it up...
The makeup and costumes was a turnoff as well...
But hey, they had talent and deserve alot of credit for making it...

Don't get me wrong, they had one of the best live shows ever, and had a few decent songs, but I never took them seriously. I used to read "Creem" magazine and get pissed off at the polls..Peter Criss was always voted "Best Drummer". He could't shine John Bonhams shoes! ;)

Aww, man! They're one of my favorite bands but I'd never say they were better or more talented than Black Sabbath, AC/DC, etc.

They are great showmen who took the "glam" thing beyond the next level. They're music is sometimes borderline bubblegum and pop. If it weren't for the make-up and stageshows, they wouldn't have lasted as long as they have.

Thanks to my favoritest person on the board!

Smash up to and including Destroyer. Kiss Alive is a very good album. Anything after that is crap. I remember in 6th-7th grade making the transition to Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd. Led Zeppelin was a 1000th percent better than Kiss. 9th grade the main music was the Stones hot rocks, the wall, and all of the zeppelin albums.

Boy Howdy --- god I used to buy Creem all of the time.

I was never as fanatical about them as some of my friends were, but I did own "Destroyer" on vinyl. I liked them, but was never really an all out fan. Of course, any band that can remain as popular as them for as long as they did has to be admired.
