"Belly Bombers".
"Sliders".
Whatever you call them, they are one of the greatest and yet repulsive foods known to man. I remember back in the 60's, when a burger cost 7 cents! In Bay Ridge there was a White Castle located next to a movie theater, and we used to load up on sacks of them and sit in the balcony and watch "Godzilla" double features, or whatever else was playing.
As a young adult, nothing beat a 5am White Castle run after drinking. What horrible hangovers, you could taste them in your system days later! Years later, I still get "the crave". So bad, but sooo good! ;)

Funny you should bring this up but my very first call as a rookie out of the Academy was a disorderly crowd at the White Castle on Bruckner Blvd. in the Bronx.

When we responded, I had no ideaa what to do. My partner took over and ordered all the kids out of the Castle. This was like 1am in the morning.

The clerk was so grateful, she gave us a big bag of cheeseburgers and onion rings. I tasted them for days after!!

That was a good memory!

Reesh, I actually watched them film "Saturday Night Fever" in the Bay Ridge White Castle at 3am. They cut it out in some versions of the film, but I will never forget the screaming girls yelling and trying to shake Travolta's trailer! LOL

We had a White Castle almost right across the street from my high school on Long Island. God I love those things. I remember being 15 and my parents going away for an overnight visit somewhere. They gave us a $20 bill (which was a lot then) and told us to buy dinner with it. We went to the Castle and bought maybe 40 hamburgers and ate them all.

My gastrointestinal tract has not been the same since.

Every group of friends has a token fat kid who does things in order for the other kids to be friends with him.

Our token fat kid drives about 45 minutes away when we're all drunk and he gets white castle for everyone.

This White Fat guy pulls up top a White Castle in the inner city and orders 200 burgers... then he orders for everyone else... here's his picture.

We used to go to the White Castle on Fordham Road near Arthur Avenue when we'd go out drinking. That was the only time I could ever eat the stuff. Yeah, if the hangover didn't kill you, the White Castle would!

Last night I watched this whole program on food revolutions on the History Channel, How fried chicken became a franchise, ice cream an american favorite, the ice cream cone, Hamburger Joints, Deli's in NYC, soda shops , It was pretty interesting. Well, White Castle was Brought about Because in the beginning a "Hamburger" was originally called meat or (Steak) cooked Hamburg Style, only for the rich, then later it was thought of as a questionable food for factory workers only, so to "revive" the whole hamburger craze a man started a "White Castle". He borrowed $700.00 and opened a shop that was meant to show his customers that they were beyond clean and honest, all customers could see the employees cutting the meat, and that they were all good cuts of meat, nothing questionable, and every single shop had 1 man that was responsible for cleaning the inside and outside of the shop all day everyday. White for purity/clenliness, and castle I think for nobility and strengh. All the men had a physical standard they had to meet. In the program they mentioned all employees were to stay clean, keep nails trimmed, shave carefully, and always smile. I guess that standard no longer applies to the degenerates behind the glass wall slinging hamburgers, that guy must be rolling in his grave. You know they deemed thier burgers "Health Food" at one time?

White Castle is definition special occassion food. I'll eat it like twice, maybe three times a year, all around sporting events, and always with beer. I know to the DAY the last several times I had white castle - and each time I made sure to take a dose of beano before I started chowing.

The best is getting a case, eating what you can, putting the rest in the fridge, and then cubing them up into eggs for breakfast the next day, bread and all.
