I can' remember if I already posted this last year when I was thinking about starting this project.
We have our TV wall mounted in the family room. I want to wire all the AV cables through the wall and into the office behind it, then use an RF-IR burst remote to control the hidden components. The Xbox controller and my laptop mouse are already RF, so that's covered. I will be extending a circuit to install a single-gang outlet behind the TV for power to the TV and the Xbox Kinect. We don't have cable TV. We don't have anything other than the Xbox and my laptop to hook up to the TV, but would eventually like to get some low-key audio receiver to run everything through.
I'm planning on hard-wiring the power, as well as HDMI and Coax. I also want to run 3/4"+ conduit to the other wall. This is mainly for the Kinect cable, but also for any future wiring that may be needed. The conduit, as well as the HDMI and Coax runs will be from behind the TV (about 4' off the floor) directly down into gang boxes facing into the room behind the wall.
My questions:
1. Is one HDMI enough? I imagine that with either a receiver or a switch in the component room, I only need the 1 HDMI going to the TV.
2. What are some good fixtures for running the conduit? I want a finished look, as well as something that is up to code. I've read of some people just hogging out a hole through the wall and lining it with PVC pipe. I will not be doing that. Because it is an office, the wires can't just dangle out of a pipe in the wall 4' off the ground.
I've been researching this shit for a while now and I haven't been able to piece it together yet. I'm surprised there's not an all-in-one system for this kind of thing given the popularity wall-mounted TV's. Home depot has 1/8 of an aisle devoted to those shitty surface mounted cable channels which suck a chimp dick. I found a supposed recessed box for "all your wall-mount tv needs" but all it has is an outlet, coax, and a single RCA jack. WTF?
