HELP!!
I'm going fucking insane. My laptop is shutting off at random times for the last two weeks. It's like I held the power button & forced a all system power crash. At first I would wake up & assume it powered down due to an update & didn't restart for some reason. Then it started happening when I was awake & using it. Upon restart I get the "Windows did not shut down properly" black & white screen.
Last weekend it happened three times on Saturday morning, almost exactly an hour apart each time. I ran updates & virus scans, not knowing what else to do with my minimal computer skills. I caught some viruses & eradicated them & when I went few days without it happening I thought I solved the problem. Then it happened again on Wednesday. I ran a scan, found nothing, but just kept my fingers crossed. I googled hoping to find a fix-all, but every problem people described seemed to be not quite what I was facing & everyone seemed to have a different answer, so I didn't know which fixes to attempt.
No issues since Wednesday, then again today it's happened twice in the span of two hours. What the fuck is going on?
Anyone have a similar issue or know what the hell this could be?

When this 1st happened I know you said you did a restore to a earlier time. Im guessing there is something hidden that you cant find and or a virus that your virus software cant find. Are you still using a free virus scan? Maybe you should either buy a virus software (I wouldnt) or do a complete restore (I would that instead). I know you dont want to restore to factory new because you then have to install everything again like you do when you 1st buy a computer but it sounds to me it might be the only thing to fix this issue.
What else you got to do anyway? Just to a system restore and be done with it!

Does the laptop feel like it's overheating? Most computers will shut themselves down if they sense it's overheating.

I dont think it is, I think he has a cooling fan under it and has it elevated!

That might be my next attempt. I'm almost done moving everything vital to the external. If it happens again this might be my last choice before throwing it through a window.

I don't think this is the problem. Like Snacks said, I do have it on a lift that keeps the air circulating around it & keeps it cool for the most part. If/when it happens again I'll be sure to take note of this. I don't have a fan under it, though, so maybe that would be something I should look into.

My old laptop was doing sort of the same thing..turns out it was the fan for the processor that died. I say look at the laptop maker and see if you can order a replacement fan..they are cheap and easy to install. Just make sure you get the same make, model and type for your laptop. My old laptop was a older model from Westinghouse..hey it was cheap...so no luck and just junked it.
Good luck
