With the new season we start a new thread.

This has already started out as a disaster. This entire season will be who is kissing the ass of the "stars" and who is trying to get them out as soon as possible! The strategy seems more about getting rid of or keeping Rob/Russ

The 1st tribal council was crazy. The secret service agent or whatever he was is annoying and might be the worst player ever, already! He was too aggressive, didnt shut the fuck up and offered way too much information that wasnt asked of him. He talked about analyzing people yet he just gave information away, no need to analyze him! He was brought into their alliance and he just gave them up because Francesca (which he couldnt pronounce) said Rob wasnt going home. He couldnt realize she was saying that to try to make Rob feel safe and that she was lying? He got nervous over her saying that Rob wasnt going home and couldnt figure that out? What a fucking idiot no wonder he no longer works for the agency!

I hope he goes soon because I cant deal with people like him. Once again Rob acts like hes the best when he did nothing but get lucky to be on a tribe with morons!

Misc Thoughts:
Blackswell Smart is the greatest thing ever to happen to the game of Survivor.

They did not skimp on the eye candy this season. There's one ugly chick (muscle-bound ox on Team Russell), one average chick (Francesca), one busty old lesbian, then like a dozen hot coeds.

I like Rob and his little army of teenyboppers. That looks like it could be a fun dynamic, especially if it turns out one of them can scrape together enough brain cells and eventually challenge him.

It kinda sucks that the only likeable person so far got voted off. Though I'm sure they probably gave her an especially good edit just so we can root for her on RI. One episode in and you have to be a fan of Francésécois.

I'm a big Russell fan, but from the tiny amount of that tribe we saw, his inclusion seems like a mistake. The first two times, no one knew him. This time everyone knows what to expect, and it looks like people are totally going to marginalize him; probably vote him out immediately. Hopefully he'll find a way to make it work, but I'm not hopeful.

It is also not like he hasn't won, He has been the sprint mvp voted by the audience in each season he was in. That is 200k total. He is getting paid. Plus the 2nd and 3rd prizes, I can't really find solid info on those amounts though.

Wiki says "In most seasons, the runner-up receives $100,000, and third place wins $85,000" but who knows.

Ah that makes a lot of sense. I think it is kind of cool then that you can keep rooting for your favorite person if they do get voted out. And the longer you last before getting voted out by tribal council - the easier it is for you to get back into the game.

I realize it's been the same exact show for seventeen seasons and I never had a problem with it, but tonight I started watching, and about ten minutes in they started SAME driving to the airport scene and with the SAME zippy Amazing Race music playing, and I just had enough.

We know Haystacks Calhoun has the Idol, but the rest of his team doesn't. They DO know that Russell and friends have a clue, plus Concubine #1 was acting like she had something precious in her bag. They were trying to convince the rest that they found the idol, which would force a vote split, which would allow them to win if they managed to sway one person.

I dont like that they let others witness RI. They should let that be a mystery til the person returns. I think that a rob and russel duel in the RI would be interesting, other than that the duel is lame. Having ANYONE interesting in it will add to the excitement.

To be honest though I don't like how Russel and Rob just became de facto leaders. All the other players just seem like rubes and followers. I think the most fascinating part of survivor is seeing who will rise to the top of the food chain and become a leader. Maybe not that many people are auditioning that they have to bring back old used up people.

I think that the most interesting tribe is the purple/old russel tribe. The other group is just falling all over rob like he is giving out fucking gold.

I am a huge russel fan, but you don't have to be the smartest group around to get rid of him early, I think throwing the challenge was a decent move as long as they don't continue to lose the next 3.

If you had 6 going into the merge I agree, breaking it up would be stupid. But I dont think this tribe is making it to the merge with 6. And if you're worried about your alliance mixing up after the merge, or that you're not in the final 4 of your alliance, picking up these stray votes is your only shot. So if you were thinking way ahead I would try to scoop this girl up.

this season has sucked. Robs team kisses his ass. How stupid they just let Rob do as he does no one is playing the game and it sucks. But the other tribe over played the game and tried to get rid of Russ too soon and threw a challenge which fucked them and fucked Russell. It would have been nice to see if the Russ and Rob where on the opposite tribes they started with. Russ would still be here and Rob would be gone. That "older" group just wanted to get rid of the former cast member no matte who it was from day 1.

Oh and we learned tonight that the hillbilly is truly that dumb. He didnt understand words, couldnt tell when something was a question not a statement and he spells easy names wrong. So no it hasnt been a joke by him it has been how stupid he is!

Pre Merge usually is kindof weak, and with the merge we're going to lose the single challenge format which I have never been a fan of. But Probst was really hyping this season going into it, he said it was top 5, and unless a volcano erupts or something I really have a hard time seeing that happen.


Now, controversially, I will say that voting out Sarita was the wrong decision. You know you're probably going to merge somewhere around 10 people so playing for tribal strength when your tribe has become so inept is pointless. You keep a dissenting member in the game who is way more likely to try and flip once you merge when you already have to pick up people to have numbers. Even if you win one of the immunity challenges by dumping Sarita the guy still defects and its like you lost the challenge anyway. At this point you've lost tribe vs tribe, you really need to start planning for the merge, which includes jawing at whoever is on exile island every weak.

Tonights episode really revealed a lot about our current culture and how much we have been brainwashed. I cant believe that everyone seemed to understand crazy ass phil when he explained his reasons that steve was a racist and using the word "crazy" in disguise for the"N" word. The fact that people didnt go off on phil and say he is looking into it too much and using race to get away with his behavior. How about the fact that he doesnt know what its like to be a white male who no matter what they do or say they get called racist for no reason? We as a society have become so afraid to be labeled racist that white people back down even when they are 100% right. The fact that Jeff Probst kind of broke it down the way he did and they all agreed on his assessment pissed me off. At first it seemed that Jeff was going to attack Phil the same way he would have attacked a white guy for using the word. Then he left phil make up his mess of stories and then Jeff backed down to appease him and the situation and then they all did. Very sad!

I also didnt like that Jeff put the "shorts thief" on the spot. Normally they dont call people out for that or kind of make it seem like someone has to own up to it, but they did. They sure as hell didnt do it last season with the Italian guy and his shoes! It was dropped very quickly but Phil made it out to be something it wasnt again! Phil has threatened people with jujitsu or whatever. He talks to himself, he talks in weird tongue and constantly goes off. HES NUTS!

Oh and he says if he is voted out tonight its because of his race! Amazing! The only racist is Phil no one else!

This is just going to be another difference of opinion in the race thing. I will start out by saying 1: Phil is either crazy or pretending to be crazy and 2: It is unfair that Steve, who has given no indication that he's racist and was not being accused of racism by anyone but a guy everyone, including the show, is treating as nuts, has to qualify how he isn't a racist. That is a societal thing because we do have a strong taboo about racism, its generally a thing that is never fully forgiven. So if you say a racist thing once that makes you a life long racist, which isn't right at all. I dont think it's purely the way we're conditioned on the part of society though, to be so fearful of being accused of racism. I think society has set up racism as such an all or nothing thing, which it isnt, so it makes us uncomfortable with the varying degrees of racism we're capable of.


Now, where I suspect the difference comes in: Phil isn't wrong about the 'crazy' thing and he isn't the one who invented it either. The idea of the wild african goes back to slave times and I agree that sometimes a nonracist word can have a very racist connotation. I dont really agree thats whats going on here, but it isn't completely out of left field.

I actually really like how Jeff handled the situation. He let both sides express their point of view without really coming into conflict with eachother. I totally agree with the reality he laid out, one person expressed one thing and another person percieved another, each of their realities is valid. The 'truth' isn't something you can really recreate. You cant merge Phil and Steve, and in looking at that one conflict you cant look at the ontology or the fall out. Everything you think about other people is just an educated guess, and thats all that can be made in a situation like this.

They went after Phil, which doesn't make any sense. Phil cant win so everyone wants him in the final. I think the only person who could give Rob a run for his money in the final is Matt, and even thats going to be hard because he has spent so much time outside of the game. No one is aggressive enough to go after Rob, he has some kind of talent for coralling stupid people.

I came into this season not liking rob at all, I hadn't really watched any of his seasons. but he is the only one really making moves, and playing any type of game.

I would like to see the marine from redemption island keep winning and get back in the game with low numbers and keep winning immunity and make it to the end.

What is with these long tribal councils. They talk about every little thing now. I guess thats what the people want, I didn't think they use to be like this. How fucking lame was it that probst made someone fess up to hiding the shorts. Why would anyone do anything if they are just going to be called out in tribal council.

I will keep watching because I am already invested, but I dont care what happens anymore and will dvr and watch when I am bored.

That decision certainly hastened the tanking of the tribe and removed any sources of tension that would've kept the dynamics shifting in either tribe. This probably could've been a good season had Rob and Russell never been thrown in.

Being on Redemption Island has probably screwed Matt, too. He's unbeatable in the jury so choosing to align with him will get you second place at best, going with Rob gets you the same thing. That girl might go with Matt on the stupidity of her conscience though. It really depends on how late they let him back in, if he can pull together enough marginalized people who will improve their finish a few slots by turning on Rob.

Maybe they did and it wasn't shown, but team loser really needed to hammer on voting Rob before every tribal council, especially when they needed less people to flip. Rob is triple protected though, he has an idol, if he goes to Redemption Island I really think he could get back into the game, and when shit really hits the fan he can tell everyone Phillip has gotten too annoying and it's time to vote him out, buying himself some more time.

Matt doesn't seem to be as emaciated as everyone else, I think the nutrition isn't comprable on Redemption Island, and being there for so long has put him in a much stronger position. At the very least he probably doesn't need to ration his rice as hard as everyone else, and he might be getting better protein. On the first season that they reintroduced eliminated tribe members they were getting chicken and stuff.

If youre going to give up the chance to spend time with your mom, do it for the kid who has been on redemption island for 6 weeks while also giving the same to 1 of your friends. dont be stupid enough to give your enemy a free victory. Did they give him or his friends even 1 extra week by voting out one of their own? No they had fun picking his tribe off 1 by 1. They even made a fool out of that kid by voting him off as soon as he got back in the game. This asshole then gives in and gives them their family member to give them a boost? What an asshole. I dont give a shit what Jesus said (who knows if any of its true anyway) you or your fellow redemption island people needed that boost more then they did. Plus I dont believe he did it for any other reason but to help him if he gets back in the game. He used "Jesus" as a way to sound good but in the end he did it for selfish reasons. But he still stupid because it wont work they will never allow that nice gesture to keep him if he is the 1 who gets back in the game!

It's not out of the question that he feels a moral obligation to make the selfless choice, and if so, benefiting six people instead of two makes the most sense by far.

And in the event that he was scheming, it's the only choice that makes any sense. Assuming he makes it back in the game, the jury is going to contain four people from the other tribe, who stand a good chance of having just been backstabbed and are fucking pissed off. If there is any chance of winning them over, why wouldn't you take it? Just how exactly is that stupid?

Very easily and very stupid. Obviously the other 2 agreed that it was stupid and both thought he should have kept the reward for himself and spent time with his mother.

If he gets back in the game, they will still vote him out because they have a strong bond and it was proven time and time again with every chance they had in the past. If he gets back in and wins immunity and makes it to the final 3 he already has the jury votes because he has his 4 former tribe members who will 100% vote for him and the blonde religious kid because he will never vote for 1 of the others because what they did to him twice. It was stupid because he already knew how they did him and his tribe wrong the entire time after they merged. There was nothing to gain out of doing what he did. All he did was give them the boost they needed. He cut his nose off to spite his face. Hes making it seem like a nice gesture but hes trying to buy a free week if he gets back. But all he did was strengthen the other tribe with them seeing their family. So he thinks he could get something but instead he helped them. And what if he doesnt get back then he did it for nothing as well. This is a game and they are all playing it the problem is his tribe played it wrong from the begging by losing on purpose. Now hes trying to be the nice guy and the other tribe doesnt care.

I have never hated a season or people as much as I hate this crew of assholes. There isnt 1 person who I would be happy to see win except maybe that real religious kid who has been on redemption island the longest. Then again it will only encourage religion for him even more which imo isnt a good thing but that doesnt matter. Not 1 person is likable or deserving imo!

He actually did choose the option with no upside. The upside would have been to spend time with his mother and get that boost and feeling that he can do it. Im sure he has seen this show before. Every season the family members always give that next gear to those who need it. Who needs it more then someone on redemption island? Why give it to people who already have the power? All he did was give them more and more. They have had it all and in all situations they got it all because the other tribe gave it to them. 1st they gave it to them by losing on purpose and giving the other team a victory when they were down and out. They had them by 2 players and with a win would have been up by 3. That loss on purpose changed the game. Now they gave them another boost victory when they didnt win it themselves!

He also pissed off his own tribe/friends by doing this. The hillbilly is pissed. That might have cost him a vote. The other guys on redemption island would rather him have kept the reward for himself then give it to the others. They even said it and he realized it afterwards himself! So he gained nothing and lost everything!

People get down they see their parent, brother, wife etc and get energy or momentum on why they are there. When people are down sometimes is shit like that, that helps you get back up. When you finally break out of a losing streak you can turn things around. It is a season of good ideas ruined by the people playing the game. The whole dilemma would've been more potent if there were a mix of allies and enemies both on redemption island and with the active members, the one sidedness of it makes it a less dramatic choice.

Theoretically it's a good choice to 'do the most good' because, should you get back in the game, you need allies, and most of those people are going to the jury. I wouldn't have done it because I think I dont ultimately believe it will help. I probably would've given it to my two redemption island mates, trusting in the idea that I will beat them and return to the game, and they will be two garunteed jury votes for me.

I wonder if that dude sold that turning enemies into friends shit when he was in Iraq?

It was interesting to see Phillip acknowledge his role as heel and the benefits of playing that role in the game. I really want to see him in the end to see what his big sell is. Phillip needs the person returning from redemption island out of the game, I have to imagine seeing a Phillip/Rob/Redemption Island in final would cause a mutiny, and Rob couldn't win.

Also, Rob saying "I need this to make a better life for my family." Amber won all stars, Rob was runner up, they've both done other season of survivor, they were the runners up in amazing race. He isn't exactly lugging bricks on the job site.

I agree with you, Im watching out of pure hate for this season too! I usually root for who is playing the best game. But I cant root for Rob, I have never liked him and think he got lucky in the same way Russell got unlucky. Rob was always hated until he did all stars. He was still hated how he played that game and for the asshole that he is. But between the engagement, survivor always marketing him or using him for the "love story" with Amber and then the amazing race, the dumb bitches on his tribe fell for him because of all that plus he had the young girls who were afraid of the celeb or didnt want to do anything and knew Rob could teach them. I do believe if Russell was on that tribe he would have gone far and Rob would have been gone from the other tribe like Russell!

As for Philip, he is playing a game that should get him to the finals and if he really isnt this crazy and this is just his game play then yes he deserves to win. But he sucks at every challenge, hes annoying as hell, he is being kept around because Rob controls the group not for any other reason. If Rob were gone Philip would be too because they all hate him since day 1. I also hope Philip doesnt win because of what happened a few weeks back with the racism and shit. After last night when he told his sister he is acting crazy or whatever as his game plan then I hate him even more because he used his game plan and race to create a fake race problem to further his game. If he is using being crazy as a plan then he knew that crazy meant crazy and he turned it into a race argument which is even worse. I dont like people that use their race or racism as a way to win an argument and watching what went down he should have lost that argument but everyone pussied out and back down to him and his race shit. They all made it seem like he was right and even apologized for it.

The only thing I really look forward to this season is the reunion special. I want to see Russell shit on everyone and call them out for throwing the challlenge and see if they can admit they were wrong for getting rid of him or at least wrong for doing it that way. I dont really get the Grant choice unless he's betting on Grant coming back from redemption island and joining back up with Rob pretending like "Oh that was on purpose to take our Matt." Grant seems like he'd have less of a chance in the jury as Rob's henchman, as opposed to that stealth game bullshit I never flirted that girl's try to sell the jury.

Grant has a way better chance of surviving Redemption Island than Natalie, and I think unless the redemption island survivor comes back into the final 3 they dont make the final, because you cant get the votes and you instantly have cred from redemption island.
