This Superbowl will be the last game broadcast by one of the greatest sportscasters in history, Pat Summerall. I remember Pat when he was doing games on CBS back in the 60's, and his teaming up with John Madden made Sunday's games special. I doubt if Pat's replacement with Madden Joe Buck will ever fill Pat's shoes, but the games won't ever be the same.

I wonder if this means Pat won't be doing play by play on Madden video games.. if so then I am boycotting the series.

I loved the team of Summerall and Madden too, but the past couple years have show that they needed a shakeup...there have been a lot of games where Pat's missed the call on the first down, or been confused about something, and it's been a little frustrating to watch. Of course they will always be remembered as the best commentating team for football, but still, i think the change will be good for both of them.

I'm sad to see him go, but I agree with Sundoggy. Summerall will always be remembered as a great, but the past few years have not been kind to him. He deserves to go out on a high note, and I think he will tomorrow.

Madden: "Now here's a guy who I'm gonna miss working with greatly because the F'N pricks of execs. from Fox thought Pat was too old for this years generation. Well in that case, my message to the brass at Fox is:
Fuck you! Fuck you! And Fuck you!! Who's next?"

Pat Summerall is to NFL football what Vin Scully is to Dodger baseball or what Bob Murphy is to Mets baseball; one of those instantly recognizable and classic voices that can make any game that much more fun to watch or listen to.
I will most definitely miss him, and it's going to take a while for me to accept any other voice alongside Madden's.
Good luck, Pat. You're one in a million.

Pat Summerall was a nice man...he had a cool Football voice too. I'll never forget the red sheen on his face from the alcohol...Glad he got himself straigtened out :)
John Madden's another story, I always found myself saying "Shut The F Up". To me he blabbered a bit too much. Oh! and them crooked lines on the "teleprompter"???? Not sure what it was called...

As long as FOX doesnt try to pull a ABC and hire a Dennis Miller type person to replace him... My nightmare would be if they hired Margaret Cho to do play by play

Pat seems like a good guy...A great presence and he will be missed...I feel bad his memory isn't quite as sharp, so i guess it's the right time for him to leave...I doubt they would ever pull an ABC and put an "non-sports" comic in his place...Althugh, Jimmy Kimmel might work.

I think John Madden is the greatest thing to happen to televised football. As for Summerall's replacement, it will be Joe Buck, the FOX baseball voice who works with Tim McCarver.
