Blade Runner is one of my favorite movies. And what happened in the end is probably why...
My thoughts are that Rutger Hauer, who was part human, part droid and was about to expire, had cherished life so much that even though Harrison Ford had tried to kill him, he saved his life, in essence saving life itself...

Has anyone seen this movie and would you agree? Liked to know what you think!

he decided to let him life because a) he cherished life and b) Deckerd was a replicant and he realized he was just doing his job.

it also makes me sad and happy at the same time... sad: when i saw Ikeaboy's reply, he left this world way too soon, happy: but we did have some fun threads in the early morning hours...

It's not clear that Deckard is a replicant himself, but if you watch the director's cut it seems to make more of a case that it was so.

Of course, the actual story, "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep" by Phil Dick, is instructional, but again not conclusive. The movie certainly departed from the story in major ways. The story focused on replicant pets and religion as a means of social control, pacification and revolution.

its obvious why he saved Deckard; to deliver those immortal lines of dialogue:

Yeah, hi. This is Rutger.

I have the 4 Disc set and am now just watching the 1982 American theatrical version. I had never watched anything other than the 1992 "Director's Cut" before getting this set.

The voiceover is a LOT worse than I imagined.

It was done to demonstrate that despite everything that happened, in the end the replicant acted more "human" than the humans using Decker to hunt him down. It was the only act of mercy in the entire film.

Funny that this post was making a big deal about digging up a post that was only a year and a half old--and then it gets bumped five year later.

Yeah, I tried finding a Blade Runner thread, this was the only one with "Blade Runner" in the title, and this seemed to be the only one about this movie specifically. There were lots of mentions in other threads including a Sean Young one.
